I made this dress using a heavyweight, unbleached cotton muslin — remnants from a draping class I took last year. Because I wanted to use as many of the remnants as possible, I didn’t pre-wash… which was a tiny mistake, in retrospect.
Miho555 said that she prints her Burdastyle patterns at 96% of original size so that when she cuts at the 34 line, she actually gets a 32. So I did that for this dress. I think that would have fit fine on me for this fitted bust style, except that I didn’t pre-shrink my fabric.
Wasn’t sure what color I wanted to dye it but I knew it needed to be a warm-water dye to minimize shrinking. So I went with Dylon Sunflower Yellow. Sewed on a little rayon lace. And there you have it!
Super-tight around the bust. Not so tight that it will break the zipper, but tight enough that I feel like sausage in a casing. Lesson for me: Pre-wash all your cotton, no matter what! :)
Blogged here before dyeing and blogged here after the dress was really, really done.

Great dress! Thanks for the wonderful tip on printing the size 34 at 96% to get the size 32. My twin 20year old daughters are very petite 5’2"tall and just under 100lbs and usually I have to downsize even more as they are a 29 inch bust! Anyway, nice job on the color and style of your dress!

I like the colour you dyed it. I’ve definetly had that kind of experience as well, forgetting to pre-shrink. Lesson learned. It probably won’t happen again. Nice dress though, too bad it’s so tight :(
