I saw this beautiful fabric and decided to make a dress like that : straight and short, resembling a 60’s era. And after sewing about 4 summer sleeveless dresses I thought it was about time to sew something with sleeves, so there they are! They’re not that succesful but not so bad either..

I love this pattern too! I’ve only made it with stretch fabrics so far but I’ve made 4 of them and they all turned out great (not one yet that didn’t get tons of compliments!). It’s so easy to make and easy to make variations (for example with the neckline, or letting it out a bit to create a different silhouette). It also requires very little fabric. Recently I bought fabric to make another one – it’s great material but very expensive so I’m glad I have a small pattern like this for it!
The only thing I didn’t like was how the sleeve tapered – it fit fine in the shoulder but I found it a little tight around my arm. I just traced a new pattern piece with the width the same from the shoulder down through the sleeve. (I didn’t hem any of the sleeves on my dresses, I used bias tape on most of them).

I love your pattern! It really suits you. And it was a good exercise in alteration in order to make it fit me :) Thanks for putting it up.

I LOVED working with your pattern, it was so simple and well-made! I had to alter it a little to fit me (you’re TINY!), and changed it to a low-back, but I was excited that it came out so well! Nice work :)

Oh that’s great!!! Nice dress! :) Well that’s the good thing with simple patterns, one can experiment with them with no great cost. Good luck with your projects to follow!

Hey!
hm, if I understood what you mean, you don’t have to cut the bust dart, you just fold the fabric, pin it or sew it by hand and then iron it so it “stands” well before you actually sew it on your sewing machine. I think this is how darts are usually sewn.
hope I helped! good luck!

Hi, I love the dress! I have a bit of a silly question: where did you put the zip? I’m only a beginner, so that’s why I’m asking!

hi there….. just wanted you to check something.—- the retro dress, have you miss written the front and back on the sleeve pattern, from my knowledge, the back is always bulker than the front, it doesnt hang quite right, but reversed it hangs straighter…. was this meant to be, or a misprint by you!!! either way, ive made a real cool number, so many thanks for uploading the pattern…. stu

hmm..that’s an interesting observation! I’ll check it, I think it wasn’t a misprint, whick is better cause it’ll help me improve the pattern, cause the sleeves were indeed not that good..so thanks! :)

How do I make this in a bigger size?

Well, frankly I don’t know much about resizing patterns, but I guess you could resize it by measuring the diameter of your chest and hips, the opening of your shoulders and the distance between those three measurements, and then try to apply these on the pattern..Sorry I can’t help you any further…wish you luck!

I downloaded the pattern last night and saw that you and I have the exact same measures for bust and waist, only the hips are off by a few. I don’t have time for sewing at the moment but will definitely give this a try over the summer! =)

This dress looks really amazing on you! I made it but didn’t quite suit me because of my low height and petite body type. Working with pattern was a pleasure though:) It was super easy. I’m not sure if this pattern should be classified as 36/38 size since I usually wear size 34 and this dress didn’t turn out too big even though I added some seam allowance. xoxo

Hey! I’m glad you made it :)
Happy you found it a pleasure even if it didn’t suit you :P ..and that at least it was easy! It would be great if you uploaded a picture of it, I’m quite curious!
As for the size, it’s according to the burdastyle sizes (http://www.burdastyle.com/statics/size-chart), I’m a 36 on the bust and 38 on my waist and hips, eitherway I have my body dimensions on the first page of the pattern..truth is, it’s on me, there’s not much free space within the dress :P

Play with it a little before you get rid of it.. I have lots of petite friends and find that by adding a skinny belt to the smallest part of your waist and playing with the hem every dress looks good :)
