I was inspired by the blue dress worn by the character Joan Holloway that is in Mad Men (season 2). I love most of her outfits.
I flat drafted the pattern from scratch with fitted kimono sleeves (really like them at the moment).
I found the fabric quite thick so it became bulky with 2 layers and had to be careful with the lapels.
I modified it quite a bit – I made a flat waistband, removed the bow, made a small pinch at the V neck instead of a gather as the fabric is stretchy and bulked too much.
I also decided not to choose a permanent contrasting fabric on the chest or cuffs so I could wear different tops under it instead.
small slit at the back as I like to still walk with a normal stride to work!
one-way stretch synthetic fabric with small houndstooth patter

GORGEOUS! I like it because it is not “as” elegant as the original! It’s like the new trend in fall with its straight lines etc. I love it.

Really cool! I also find film to be great inspirations! My favorite would be the Black Cat (1934) with Bela Lugosi, for female costumes, the rest is a bit forgetable!
