Gorgeous dress, I adore the colour & the bow. @ irmchen: while in general most everything will look better on someone with an ideal body shape/size, as a larger lady myself, these style of dresses are generally quite flattering. I haven’t tried this particular pattern (yet!) but I have a similar dress which nips me in at the waist and skims over my hips & bottom, hiding any unsightly lumps & bumps! I’m not sure how well it would suit an apple shaped figure though?

o.k. – I am looking forward for lots of rockabilly – dress versions to improve my arguments. ;-)
Just to mention: My daughter is a young girl which isn’t large at all… but such a dress doesn’t suit her… no way… and I am wondering why?

I will do my best to make a rockabilly dress Irmchen, but I am still a very inexperienced sewer – I generally get my poor mother to help me with most of my projects (in between knitting me hats!!) as she has been sewing for decades and can stop me from ruining any fabric!
What about the dress doesn’t suit your daughter? The skirt or the top??
I find where the waist line lies makes a big difference to how a dress looks on me, but again I am probably a different shape to your daughter so that might not help!!

I will chance it… I am going to sew a 50’s swing dress for my daughter, similar to this beautiful one from Cecsa. Just to check if it suits her or not! We will see how the results on my test will be. ;-)

Hi cantare,
in my opinion such a rockabilly dress with a petticoat underneath fits those girls the most, who are pretty slim. Am I wrong or right?
