I am in love with the swing coat!!! I’m starting to realise that it is becoming a deep deep love.. The brown-blue reversible number I made a few months ago is still a wardrobe favourite. However, I decided it needed a friend :)
More fabric op shop finds: lovely vibrant jungle-y green man-made fibre, and cotton leopard print bed sheet – a killer combination! I didn’t have very much to work with in terms of the size of the green fabric, so there was quite a bit of against-the-grain pattern piece placement. However, I decided that this wasn’t going to be an issue, since the fabric was thick and had a bit of stretch both with and perpendicular to the grain.
Sewing the two VERY different fabric types together was a fun exercise. I had to make sure I was extremely precise in my sewing, and to be strict in not allowing the green fabric to stretch very much. It’s times like those, I was ever so grateful for trusty old zig-zig. So simple, yet so necessary…
The rest was, of course, history! I’ve been wearing this bad boy every day since making it. Quite literally. It’s perfect on cool days with sleeves rolled up to reveal the leopard print, or on chilly says, with sleeves down and a cardi underneath.
