This outfit was inspired by a blog posted by the Selfish Seamstress.
I loved the idea of a cape dress whereby the cape is attached using the buttons on the dress. As I already have a cape pattern, I didn’t want to buy another. Instead, I used a dress pattern from burdastyle and a vintage cape pattern, made modifications for both to recreate the look.
Ikea cotton fabric, buttons, poly lining

Very chic styling. I think the choice of fabric, the length, cape(let) etc. makes it look very crisp and lady-like, but in a sexy-librarian kind of way ;)
I think I may try to copy it if I can find the same fabric. Hope you will take it as “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery” rather than “Hey, that woman stole my idea!”

Thank you Puffling! Hahaha…no problem, I’m more than happy to see more versions of it. I didn’t come up with the idea though, it was an idea from a vintage sewing pattern…genius isn’t it?

The way those pleats open is JUST RIGHT. The cape is a nice addition too, in a pretty-but-understated way.

Thank you! This is my first experience with box pleats and I enjoyed the learning experience.

You’ve done a lovely job of this. I too like the idea of the cape being attached using the buttons of the dress. Just beautiful Honey, perfect plaid matching too – which is always a winner!
I think you’ve way underestimated yourself – that plaid matching is in no way “novice”!!!
