Description

The materials for this project were entirely free—my neighbors were throwing out the silk I used for the lining, a student gave me the tweed, and a friend’s boyfriend donated the leather buttons. Based on McCall’s M5759, I cut the sleeves to 3/4 length.

This jacket is wonderful. Striking, with clean lines, visually interesting, but wearable everyday! I love it

    Yep, you get it!

That jacket is everything which is right with sewing. Stylish, eco-friendly, and with enough unxpected elements to make it a “piece” in your wardrobe for years.

Dyeing the silk shows vision, nerve, and a real sense of play.

Very resourceful…and it takes confidence to use mismatched leather buttons. Congrats. I should do that with my leather buttons. I’ve a bunch that don’t quite match….
