Description

I’m at that stage where I need maternity clothing- again! I’m due in a few months and almost all my tops are too short so I decided to set myself a challenge and design, draft and make a simple top which could be made in two hours. I think I used a Lydia or sadie pattern as my base ( I can’t remember which as I used a pattern which I had already made a few small alterations too, but I think it was Sadie which was the original pattern). I would love to make one for my best friend, because she just shared the good news with me… Is there any way you can publish you super pattern here on burdastyle? I like it so much! (Who knows, maybe I’ll need one someday again… ;) )

Thanks for the nice comments! Yes Frankiesoup that’s a good idea with the men’s shirts! but I do like starting a sewing project from scratch instead of altering most of the time:) Congrats on your pregnancy too Suribabe! Yes I find that maternity wear is quite expensive- actually i’m currently looking for maternity swimwear- any ideas???bxx

I’ve found that thrifting men’s shirts that are too large and adding a drawstring beneath the bust is a really good way of getting cheap maternity wear. If you can get some nice long ones then you just have to buy some maternity leggings and you’re set – no need to worry about jeans or skirts or anything.

This top looks great though – I love the neckline and the little sleeves. :D

Congrats on the pregnancy. Hope all goes well.. I like your top.. Well done.. You should be making lots more I’m 34 weeks pregnant myself but not bought any materniy clothes . So much easier and cheaper to make your own.
