1980's Teddy Bears

Added Feb 10, 2011

Newport, Rhode I...

Sifting through my past to prepare for some serious spring sewing. I located these guys-some nothing like vintage editions I evolved toward, but, kind of a pleasant memory.

Later models used mohair & leather-still seems like character not necessarily dependent on fabric…kind of how I’d like to be judged. However, they were fully jointed in traditional manner.

I dressed them in patterns I used for the children’s clothes I made & sold. I called these Banana Boat Bears or Boat House Bears. Funny thing, I did not live anywhere near the ocean then, but, I do now!
Wishful thinking or just selection based upon stable employment!

Material Notes

Imitation mohair, imitation leather, cotton, corduroy, polyester filling, hard board joints, screws & nuts or cotter pins, plastic buttons, accessories

Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter
Garment Type
Beach, Casual
Corduroy, Cotton, Leather/Fur, Wool

I love your bears. Funny, but I’m also from Rhode Island :) Haven’t met anyone from my state in BS.

Me neither! I became aware of all the talent in area-RISD, etc.
Your baby things are really well done! The pink baby dress…oh, so, dainty!
Thank you-the vintage looking bears I gravitated to making later might be at home here-most all buildings over 100 yrs. old!
