Description

I used Butterick #4393 (a 1970s Jane Tise “Young Designer” pattern) to make this dress which has front and back yokes, a casual, flared silhouette and 3/4 length puffy sleeves. I was really lucky to find the vintage “floral brushstrokes” print cotton fabric at a local thrift for a mere $2.00 a yard! Although it has a very loose and unstructured fit, this was quite complicated to make due to the self-lined yokes, puffy sleeves (TONS of gathering involved), side seam pockets and topstitching. The construction definitely put many of my sewing skills to good use!

Material Notes

I used grey cotton shirting for the yokes, collar, front tab and cuffs. The sleeves and body are made from lovely vintage 1960s “floral brushstrokes” print cotton that I at a local thrift store for a mere $2.00!

I’m really disappointed now that I passed up this pattern awhile ago. Of course, you rock every 1970s pattern you make, whether or not it would look good on me!

I love love this dress. I would wear it all of the time. If I looked at that pattern I am not sure that I would see how cute it would turn out! Great job!

Thanks! I’m considering making an Obi belt from the contrasting grey fabric so I can try that!

Good taste is the one thing-the most important one. Skill is the next step, which is not so complicated in the end, well that’s what I think?

It’s always nice when two pieces of fabric that you’ve had stashed away forever finally meet up and end up making a great match! Thanks!
