I designed and made this coat last summer. It is made from barkcloth which was popular (mainly for upholstery) from the 1940s until the 1960s. It is midi length and single breasted with a shawl collar in contrasting pique cotton. The same contrasting fabric forms the cuffs on the 3/4 length turn-up sleeves. There is a seperate yoke at the back which is lined in oyster satin. Under this is the main back piece which has a centred box pleat in both the bodice and skirt section. It has 3 buttons at the centre front as well as a self-fabric tie belt, and has in seam pockets in the side seams. The bodice section of the coat has french darts and the inside of the coat is lined in oyster satin.
Vintage print hawiian barkcloth in slate blue with cream and pink orchids. Oyster satin lining.
