This is my wedding dress. It is my first serious clothes sewing effort. The bodice section is a modified variation of a McCalls pattern and the skirt and general dress concept from a Burda Style magazine, which featured wedding dresses.
What a learning experience! The most challenging part was getting the correct fit for the bodice. I found the adjustment for the fit was the most time consuming part and also very frustrating after what felt like about the twentieth attempt. In hindsight I think I would have added many more layers of interfacing to add stiffness to the bodice, although it does have boning (which I had not much of an idea how to add). I can quiet safely say that without the deadline of the wedding date, I’m not so sure this project would have been finished, but do feel like I have developed persistance of steel throughout the process. My goal is to sew prolificaly for the next few months to increase sewing skills and I am very interested in learning as much as possible about pattern drafting due to shear frustration of using comercial patterns!
