Description

Vogue Vintage 2787! It’s wasn’t that bad, though it irks me that Vogue Patterns are big fat liars. The dress ended up being two sizes too large and I had to take it in a fair amount at the seams. It took a lot of tweaking especially after I opted out of adding shoulder pads, that was a very time consuming adjustment, making the neckline larger and fitting new facing to fit the adjustment. I think it’s a fantastic dress and so worth all the time spent on alterations! I’m so pleased how it came out! I would love to make it again (cutting a size smaller) in a solid color like black (fake) linen, my favorite!

Material Notes

Fabric of questionable dating. Bought it from someone who said it was from the 1970s, but it has nothing to do with that time period! It’s either a repro from 1970s or the 1940-ish and is missed dated. Bought for $15.

Yes — the fabric is really great — I think what works well as well is that the flowers are not too large or too small for this pattern — they are a neat size (sometimes It can be a challenge finding flower designs that suit a pattern). In this dress, it works fabulously.

Your dress looks very good! good choise of fabric (in the seventies, this fourties style was very popular) I have this pattern in my cupboard for more than two years now, I was a bit frightened to start this dress. But now I see the result, I want to get started! I have a similar fabric in yelow, hope it works too…

I love this dress pattern :) You did a great job! Good fabric choice, too!

hey there this is lovely, that vintage look fabric is so great for the style of dress….do you ever tissue fit?…its a pain and takes a while but really helps with the sporadic sizing that patterns tend to have. also helps if your front/back top/bottom etc are not all the same size – trust me I know on that one :)

this would look very classic in black linen – looking forward to seeing it.

Sometimes I tissue fit, but this case I didn’t think I needed to. I have near perfect pattern measurements. I always have to take it in a little but I didn’t anticipate having it 2 sizes too big! I might do that now on when it comes to Vogue, I hear people have the same problem. Thank you for you’re great comment and advice!

Lovely work — the pattern and fabric work so well together, — I was thinking of making this as well, but it looks like it requires lots of patience and is quite a detailed construction. An awesome dress — would look great in so many colours and prints as well.

It isn’t that hard, but if you don’t have a lot of patience then it might come out messy (you have to be very slow and sure when you’re top stitching the pieces over the gathered pieces). Thank you so much for you’re reply, the fabric is really great isn’t it? :D

Sense and Sensibility has a very easy 1940’s dress that’s really flattering, has very great instructions, and there is always help available from the drafter herself! I began sewing with S&S patterns, her regency dress is my favorite! Thank you for your comment!

This is lovely – I’ve spied this dress pattern before and you’ve done a fab job! I have always thought it has a nice Asian retro feel to it – and I think your fabric plays on this nicely. Vogue patterns can be big liars. I am planing to make one of their retro patterns too soon – and I never know what size to make I never seem to know how they will turn out!

Yes, it has a Cheongsam feel to it. I have near perfect pattern size measurements and I ended up taking 2 inches from each side! I should have payed attention to the finished measurements on the actual pattern piece, it would have saved me some time.

      Thanks so much!
