So I was hired to do a wedding, the bride’s maid dresses to be specific. But it ended up not working out for a variety of reasons (time, cost, whatever). Before the order was cancelled I actually drafted the pattern for the dresses and made a prototype. This was based on two photos that the bride sent me. I merged the two styles into this dress. I’m pretty happy with the results!

This is a well executed design. One first sees the neckline and hem, but the bodice details are amazing. Would be lovely in a silk shantung, where you can visually see all the details.

I agree! The dresses were going to be made in a dark blue satin with gold pleats and buttons. they would have turned out great. I used this floral fabric because It was a remnant and I got it for pretty cheap. I figured if it didn’t turn out I wouldn’t have lost much. But I did like the print enough to wear it if the dress did turn out well.

I had the required half semester of sewing in middle school and loved it. But my mother would not allow more classes because she had me on a strict college prep track for a career. This was in the fifties and careers for women were limited in business were limited to minor roles and she was determined to make that change…with me. After college and starting my career, while pregnant the first time, I started sewing again with my sister-in-law who taught me the basics. We made maternity and baby clothes for both of us. All during my career in accounting, I continued to sew, making clothes for my daughters and myself, my husband and home. I’ve always taken classes when I could work them in. I’m 70 now and still sewing, learning new skills and recently a granddaughter started sewing also. Sewing has been a life long passion.

I’ve only been sewing for about 10 years, but once I started I never wanted to do anything else. I’m glad you got back to it and that now you can do it for you. My dad wanted me to be an accountant too, like him. While the security of the job was there, I had to try to do this. I love it so so much.

wow, i am totally in love with this pattern. The dress is beautiful, i love the material 2, at first i thought it was 2 busy, but at second glance i now think that it is really gorgeous, the material goes brilliantly with the simplistic design of the dress x 5 stars x

Thank you! I was unsure about the fabric too, but since this was a prototype I thought if it didn’t turn out I wouldn’t be too upset. Lucky for me it did though.

This is really lovely! I love that you merged the two styles and made your own dress! YOU DONE DID GOOD! Sorry bad english and I don’t mean to yell, but it is just so cute. Is the fabric vintage? It’s great!

The fabric was actually a remnant that I got for 50% off at a nearby fabric store. I almost didn’t have enough but I had to get creative with the cutting and take 3/8" allowance.
And thank you, I appreciate all comments yelling or not!

Absolutely stunning. The fabric is gorgeous and I love the contrast of the kick pleats. The length is important to create that vintage feel and you have really done a fabulous job. I love it.

Thank you Janene. I had thought about making it shorter but I agree with you about the length in vintage garmemts.

Thanks! I love the print too. Some people think red and blue don’t go together but I’ve always loved that combo with certain shades.
