1920s Cocoon Coat

Brooklyn, New Yo...
I have been in awe of the 1920s cocoon coat ever since I saw a few photographs of museum pieces. My first attempt at one resulted in a Kimono, however, really liked it even though that wasnt my intention.
This was a an intensive work project. I patterned in one night after work and sewed in two nights after work. Three days! ahhh.
I finally figured out how to drape the pattern. I made the body of the coat out of a silk burned out velvet. The velvet (much like a 20s fabric) was not wide enough to fit the pattern, so I made a little art deco design out of a complimenting wider cream silk on the raglan shoulders. Its trimmed with a lux faux fur and silk fringe. I used all french seams to keep it light weight. The dress underneath is a vintage slip.
