Description

This is a mid-1920s afternoon tea dress I made for one of my historical reenactment fashion shows. It’s made mostly out of raw silk with complementary cotton sleeve and neckline finishing. On the sides there are cotton gussets with a sewed on Aztec/art deco motif embellishment. A belt finishes off the whole look. The pattern was self drafted.
This is my first time working with silk. I was afraid to touch it in the beginning, but luckily the fabric was thicker than the traditionally known flowing silk which would be much more difficult to work with. A nice element to the work with this material is the sweet smell of the raw silk. :)
