Lay each interfaced tab piece on tab piece with no interfacing right sides together. Trim one end of each tab to a point. Stitch edges together, leaving straight end open. Turn tabs right side out. Topstitch close to edges. Work buttonhole for small button in pointed end of tab. Lay tabs inside shorts, over side seams, 8 cm (31/4 ins) above hem line, with pointed ends pointing up. Stitch straight ends in place. Turn tabs down. Stitch again in a square and crisscross within the square. Sew small buttons to outside of shorts, over side seams, 1 cm and 3 cm (3/8 in and 11/4 ins) above tab stitching.
