This is one of burda style magazine’s patterns so we (BurdaStyle) didn’t create the design or write the instructions. As far as I can see, the numbered pattern pieces only go up to the number 4— then there are pieces 4a, 4b, 4c, etc. All of the pieces with “4” are for the cargo pockets. Let me know if this is helpful to you and I am sorry I can’t offer much more information. alison

Frankly, no, this wasn’t helpful to me at all. If you actually download the pattern, you get pieces 5 & 6. Additionally , pieces a-d are just rectangular pattern pieces that can easily be made without a pre-made pattern piece. Pieces a and b are for the pockets; c attaches to the waistband (somewhere!) and d is the long piece to keep the pant legs up when wearing the pants with the legs rolled up. They aren’t referred to as 4a, 4b, etc. anywhere.
How do I contact someone who knows more about the pattern and could answer my questions? Burdafashions.com just routes me right back here.
Thank you.

This is my first Burda pattern and I have a few questions. First, what are pieces 5 & 6 for? They aren’t indicated on the layout or cutting instructions. Second, piece “c” says it’s a left underlap piece. Is there supposed to a right underlap piece? Next, I don’t completely understand the placement of piece “c”. I have read step 13, where it is stitched to the waistband pieces. Is it attached to the ends of the waistband pieces or to the bottom of one of the pieces? And, where exactly? I love the look of the pants and I’m really looking forward to getting them made!
