Pin the shoulder edges of front facings right sides together with shoulder edges of back facing. Stitch the shoulder seams and press the allowances open. Neaten the inside edge of the facing pieces and lay them right sides together with front jacket pieces. Line up the front edges and pin together from the lapel fold lines to the lower edges. Pin the facing in place, to about 5 cm (2 in) before corners of lapels. Stitch fronts to facings, from collar to joining marks. Secure start and end of seams. Leave the facings lying right sides together with jacket for now.
Lay collar between jacket and facing. Stitch. Clip seam allowance of fronts and facings into corners. Pin long edge of under collar to neck edge of jacket and pin top collar to facing. Stitch. Trim seam allowances, trimming corners of the lapels diagonally. Press the collar joining seams open. Turn facing to inside, press edges. Pin collar joining seams together exactly.
Lay back facing up and stitch seam allowances together, close to collar joining seam. Lay facing down again.
