Hi! Sorry for the delayed reply— I didn’t know you’d commented on that dress! Anyway, to answer your question, it was half-pattern half-improvised— I made an underdress from a heavily modified Butterick 6406 (haven’t quite gotten the skills to draft a pattern myself that fits yet), and then the sheer overlay was draped over top of that on my dummy to get the look I wanted.
