I’ve been looking at your projects and though there are only 8, every one of them is so immaculate and inspiring to me. I really don’t think you’re a ‘novice’ anymore!

I especially love the yellow dress – I love bright colours and you look especially good in it – and the rose blouse for the lovely detailing. Keep you the fantastic work, your creations are awesome!

Mmmm… Pattern Magic 2, that’s a good one too. In english? Jag har alla på japanska nu, jag tror att jag måste köpa dem på engelska också, är så nyfiken (nyskjerrig?) på vad det står för hemligheter i texterna, säkert en massa bra tips!

Sorry, what is? I´ve been having some difficulties with my profile lately. It shows that I have 38 messages on my wall, but yours is the only one I can see. Now THAT´s a mystery ;-). How are you by the way?

Oh goodness. Im doing well. How about you?

I was just wondering if the new garment you’re making for which you finally found inspiration is a mystery, since your status was " finally found inspiration to sew. This time a …" I hope my explanation made sense.

My god, this is the latest reply ever. Sorry! I was making a dress for my pregnant sister, to use in her friends wedding. Can´t really explain the dots.

But I havnt been sewing anything else the entire summer. I´ve been too busy, and maybe a bit lazy too ;-). But now well off making a blouse, just to get me started again.

Have you had a nice summer? Can´t believe that it´s over.

I think you´re too much of an optimist now, but thanks;-). I am on my way out now, and the crazy yellow dress is on! I hope to post some pichtures during this week. That is if I don´t get any horrible comments on the show tonight. I´m even entering the stage! So so nervous :-S. Wish me luck :-D

It went great! Did’t fell or lost my dress on stage ;-). My dress can be seen from outer space, so people can’t help taking notice ;-).And I even won an award for graphic design. This is a good day ;-). Thank you for your kind words!

Thank you! My poor ego can´t handle this :-P. I´m so inspired by the overwhelming feedback that I just want to learn even more. As you know I wasn´t sure if I was brave enough to wear it at the show, so your assuring really helped.

You poor thing! Are you still waiting for your machine!? I´m waiting for my tailor bust. It hasn’tbeen a week yet, but I am already really inpatient ;-). Can´t even imagine how it is waiting for a machine that long. Hope you get it soon :-)

    • Img_0024_thumb

      Mar 25, 2010, 12.45 PMby Natalia *

Yes I am STILL waiting. I can’t believe its taken this long but they’ve been having backorder issues at Janome Canada so the company I bought from had to order the machine from Janome in the US. I was told last week that the machines should be coming in this week and so hopefully I can pick it up this weekend. But Ive heard that same speech 3 times before, so I don’t know what to believe now. I really hope I get it soon. Ive been going into withdrawal. I keep checking out peoples projects and thinking “Oh I would love to make something like that, I even have the right fabric for it!” and then remembering that I have no machine to sew on. :(
Fingers crossed that this weekend will be the one! Haha.

Hm, sounds like quite a mess. It´s almost like the store should provide you with a free rental machine or something while you are waiting ;-). My machine broke down a while back. I couldn´t afford sending it to repair, and I didn´t had the patient to wait for it to finish. So I ended up taking it apart my self. I had no idea what I was doing, but by some kind of miracle, it run smoothly when I put it back together. Pure luck I guess :-)

I just got a note from the post office saying my tailor bust has arrived! Have no idea where to put it though… My boyfriend might get annoyed ;-)

    • Img_0024_thumb

      Mar 25, 2010, 02.20 PMby Natalia *

Yea a rental would be nice. I still have my old Singer. The pattern selector gear is broken so all it does is a straight stitch. Ive been using it on and off to complete a project, but I need the zig zag/overcast stitch to finish off some seams, so it gets really frustrating when you have an almost complete project just laying around for a long time. I wanted to get a tailor bust myself, but they’re quite pricey and I don’t know which size would be best for me (Im quite petite at 5’0" -so I was torn between getting a petite mannequin or just an XS regular mannequin). Either way, at the moment, its out of my price range. Instead I made myself a gummed paper tape tailor bust, but it got a little deformed when I cut it to get it off.
Don’t worry, my bf gets annoyed with my stuff too. I don’t have a separate area for sewing -its all in our computer/library area (we live in a one-bedroom rental house) so when I get sewing, my stuff takes up both computer desks, the dining table and essentially, the whole room. So Im sure a neat little tailor bust won’t be too annoying for your bf.

Mar 25, 2010, 02.47 PMby Nina Helland Sortland

I totally understand your frustration. I have a bunch of unfisished projects laying around too, but that´s mostly because they didn´t turned out they way I wanted, or they simply wasn´t as fun to work with. Once I actually got stuck in a dress I was making. I actually needed help cutting it off! It was a claustrophobic experience, not to mention embarrassing :-P. I guess it´s a part of learning and being a novice :-).

Well, the tailor bust are quite pricy, but I found one online I could afford. It has a feaure making it adjustable at hip, waist and chest, so I can adjust it to my mesurements. It comes i three sizes. I found it on a norwegian site, and I don´t thin they ship abroad, but you can take a look :-):

You’re too sweet! Thanks :-). I had s greatest day starting with my boyfriend singing me the birthday song and giving presents at 6.15 in the morning(!). I didn’t get a machine. The poor guy had no idea which one to buy, understandably enough. But I got tickets to the opera and hiking boots. I have never been to the opera before, so I’m really excited :-). Are you still waiting for your machine? I am actually on my way out to buy fabric for a dress I’m planning to make for a reward party I’m attending next week. Hope I get to finish it in time. Fingers crossed!

Aww thats really sweet. He sang for you. My bf would never do that. :(
I am still waiting for my machine. It was supposed to come in Mon/Tuesday of this week , but it seems to be oversold everywhere and so it won’t be in store until early next week. Im really anxious to get it already, so I can start some new projects. Good luck with your new project. Ill let you know how my new machine works when I get it. : )

Ah, the wait is boring. Hope you have a machine you can use while you are waiting. I´ve just started with the dress. I´m trying to adjust the pa

I was intrugued (or inspired maybe) by your question about a dress pattern, had a look and saw that you mention the V7365. One of my favourites here at BS is made with that very pattern, it’s gorgeous: http://www.burdastyle.com/projects/spike-dress?image=52732 II have no hints on patterns to add right now though… good luck!

You’re most welcome! I’ll take a look at the links you posted of the Vogue-patterns, first thing in the morning! :-) You’re lucky to live near the “fancy” outlets! I live just outside Odense on Fyn, in Denmark. Not a very large city, but I love it. My boyfriend, who is btw. a grafic designer like you, has actually arranged an outlet with one of his friends once, and as I understand, they’re planning to maybe do it again this summer. But it’s not a high-end- outlet, just street wear. :-) About the Jocelyn pattern I think it would be perfect, both for you and me eventhough you’re petite and I’m… ehhh… tall ( :-D)

Thank you very much for your comment on me gettin’ better! I actually just finished my first project in 6 years. Just a pair of lace-leggins, but I made them fra scratch, pattern and all, so I’m sooo proud! :-) I’ll tell my bf to maybe take a picture of me wearing them.

Hi Nina. I’m attending a wedding this summer too, and I was thinking of sewing up the Burdastyle Jocelyn- pattern. I downloaded it in here and I’m looking very much forward to making the dress! I think it would look good on you! :-) Your Projects look fantastic. I actually own a Malene Birger cocktail-dress. Sometimes, in Denmark, I’m lucky to find her things second hand, as I did with the dress. :-)

Hi.Thanks for the tip! The Jocelyn-pattern is actually within the style I had in mind; classic, yet feminine. I´ve also thought about a low/open back dress, but I don´t want to show too much skin since it´s a wedding ;-). I´ve played with the idea to combine one of these vogue patterns (http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/v2899-products-4890.php?page_id=861 and http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/v7365-products-2678.php?page_id=861) with a second pattern, and the Jocelyn might be a good mach :-).
I´m so flattered by your kind comments! There is actually an outlet nearby where I live which sometimes sells previous collections of BMB half off. I am always first in line when that happens ;-). Glad you are better, and I´m looking forward to see your work :-).

Hi Nina, while you only have several projects, I actually love them all. I was just admiring your granny pants and stumbled upon your projects page. Ive seen all those projects before, but didn’t realize they were all made by you. You may not be Malene Birger, but your projects are quite beautiful nonetheless. P.s. I just checked out her SS10 collection and its amazing. I can see where you got your inspiration for those pants. She has several similar garments.

      Hello Natalia,
Thank you so much for the kind comments! It really means a lot to me to :-). You have a great line of work yourself. I specially love the Louisiana Iris whit the detail in the neckline and the amazing color!
Yes, Malene Birgers collections are a great inspiration. She has such an eye for details, and a delicate finish to her work. And since I can´t always afford her clothing, I have to make my own versions ;-).

PS: I also really need a new machine!

Ive been having such a hard time deciding what new machine to get. Have you been looking at any specific makes/models?

Mar 4, 2010, 01.36 PMby Nina Helland Sortland

I really understand your struggle! I´ve heard good things about the Janome 4900QC, but I haven´t tried it myself. I really want a computer based machine (don´t know if that´s what it´s called), but those are quite expensive. My mom had a Husqverna machine always fell apart, so I´m avoiding those ;-). I can´t afford an advanced one, but I have my eyes on a Singer Comfidence 7470. Also I hope to one day get an overlock in addition. I have to do some sucking up to my boyfriend for my birthday ;-).
Hehe, this probably wasn´t helpful at all!

      Mar 4, 2010, 02.24 PMby Natalia *

That’s so funny. I’ve already been hassling my boyfriend about a new machine as a birthday gift. I suppose its easier for you, seeing as your birthday is coming up. I still have months to go, so Im probably just going to suck it up and buy myself a machine sometime soon. As a result, Im looking at the lower end models (don’t have too much money to spend right now). The store near my house has a few new but retired Janome models on sale (350-450$ Can), so I think Ill end up getting one of those. They are the 419S and the 625E. Have you heard anything about those?

    • P6211884_thumb

Mar 4, 2010, 02.33 PMby Nina Helland Sortland

Haha, poor guys! I´ll probably end up buying my own as well, but it´s worth a try ;-)
Sounds like a good deal those Janome models. I haven´t heard anything about them, but I can´t say I am very updated on sewing machines. Some years ago, when I was a student, I worked part-time in a fabric store. They sold Singer and Bernina machines, so my knowledge pretty much stops there.

      Mar 4, 2010, 02.36 PMby Natalia *

Yea I dont know anything about sewing machines, so I don’t know if those are good prices. Im just worried that Ill purchase one of them and then find out later that they were only worth like 200$ and that I paid double. I do need a new machine though, so I guess Ill just risk it.

    • P6211884_thumb

Mar 4, 2010, 04.25 PMby Nina Helland Sortland

Hard to tell. I guess the best thing is to just not think about it if you end up buying one of them. Just think about the many cool things you can make on your new machine :-). Please let me know if you can recommend the machine you buy if you do.
