Hi Suzy!
Sorry to hear you’ve been ill :-( I hope you are back to good health. Enjoy your trip to Portugal! I’ve never been there.
I know what you mean about taking photographs being time consuming – sometimes it feels more of a hassle than all the sewing :-) Well, I plan to do a LOT of sewing so you’ll be seeing more projects here soon. I’ve also gone back to updating my blog with sewing related stuff. And I’ll take pictures of the things I made in the past and was too lazy to photograph and post…
Talk to you soon! Enjoy your trip! Many purrs to your cats…

Hi Suzy,
I am officially back to sewing! How are you? Did you see the reply I left to your comment on my wall? Hope you’re well :-)

Hi Keren,
Yes I did thank you. I’ve not been coming to this site very often and when I do it’s always for a fleeting visit. It started getting on my nerves when it wasn’t working properly.
I’m glad to hear you’re back to sewing. I’ve been ill for a while and the only thing keeping my spirits up is creating new things everyday. Unfortunately, I haven’t taken many photographs to put up here as it’s time consuming.
I’m going home to Portugal for 10 days next week, but when I come back I’ll upload my works. Hope to see some of yours here soon.
Meaow to your cat even if he’s at your parent’s. Mine are sleeping on either side of me as I type :-).
Speak soon. xx

Hello, Suzete! I don’t know if the activity is “working” – it sent me a message to my e-mail that someone (they listed a name of another BurdaStyle member) favourited my technique, but in the actual activity on my page it shows “Almatinka favourited your technique…”… You know, like I favourited my own!!! :-) So I am not keeping my hopes too high yet… ;-);-);-)

Hi there, it’s so nice to view you! I’ve missed one of my favourite sewing buddies!!! I haven’t been on this site for months because it was annoying me, but I checked a few days ago and it wasn’t working at all, but it just worked now that you posted this message, so fingers crossed! How have you been? Have you sewn much? I haven’t – I’ve been between unwell and moving home, so not much time. Anyway, speak soon. xx

Yes, I am pleased that the site is working (albeit not completely right) as well!!! I am glad to have actual communication with people again!!! ;-)
I haven’t done anything really, except finish my Ex-Jeans skirt (it’s in my studio here and it’s the one I created the technique for… so long ago ;-)) It’s been one thing or another. I am going on vacation the day after tomorrow, though, and maybe will sew (maybe, because it’s our anniversary with my husband, so I might be busy… ;-))

I know what you mean – the site has been (and still is) driving me a bit nuts, but I guess we just have to grit our teeth and see if it all goes away. ;-)

Hi, Suzete! Got your message about your friend. I’m afraid I’m not going to be able to show her around this week, unless she cares to go fabric shopping with me and a few friends on Saturday! You can email me at peterlappinnyc@gmail.com directly.
All best,
Peter

Hi Peter,
Thank you. I was unwell and didn’t get to speak to her before she left and she is a technophobe, so prob won’t be checking her emails.
Thanks anyway. I’ll be more than happy to show you around London if you’re ever over here.
Suzy xx

Grumpy Young Women! Hehe! After re-reading my post, I was afraid it sounded so crazy. And while I am a little nuts, I’m not one of those wacky online ravers shouting from my soapbox. And I’m not as penny-pinching as I probably should be, either. Thanks, sister :D

Hi Suzete, thanks for your lovely comments on my Origami dress!

No thanks necessary – it is genuine and deserved. xx

It seems that I loved your Mocca Dress so much, I commented on it for the second time today and even clicked on the “Add to favourites” link again, realizing (too late) it had already been clicked, thus I removed it from my favourites and then had to add it to my favourites again! ;-) I removed the second comment as well (it said “Love the pleats! And the whole dress looks very fresh and cute!”), for I think it looked silly to have two on there! :-) But I do love the dress and actually your work in general! :-)

Lol, thank you very much. I’ll take your two comments as a compliment. Have a good day. :-)

You are welcome! And of course I meant to write two comments as a compliment!!! I mean, what else could it be? (Other than, of course, me going senile at “not quite thirty”! :-):-);-) lol)

Congratulations on the serger!!! Things will be so much easier for you now! :-)

Thank you. I forgot an important thing though, to get thread for it! My husband and I laughed when we got home and I didn’t have red thread to finish the dress I was making. Lol
Apr 13, 2010, 12.16 AMby almatinka
You are welcome! Mine came with “thread” already – I put “thread” in the quotation marks, because it was really not very good and all different colours – to match the colour coded thread paths on the serger for me to learn how to thread it (which I did), but I did get a few runs on some scraps using those and also made pillows with them (colour didn’t matter much since the thread is always going to be on the inside AND pillows themselves will be inside pillow cases). But of course, if you are already on a project I understand why you’d need the matching thread. ;-) Don’t feel bad, though – we all make mistakes. I was just at a store and bought three patterns – two of them were “all sizes included”, so somehow my mind just assumed that the third one (one for my husband) would also have all sizes listed in the sizing information table! :-) Ummm… Let’s just say it was WAAAAY off and far from his size, so I’ll need to exchange it (hopefully they’ll allow that).

I got different threads at last and managed to finish my red dress which I’m wearing to work today, but haven’t had a chance to take pictures to upload here. Talk to you later. xx

Awesome! I’ll be looking forward to the pictures! :-)

Hi Suzy,
Actually I did initially feel bad when I read what you wrote because I felt that maybe I wrote something I shouldn’t have and maybe hurt someone. But it’s OK, I know you meant well and I also meant well. Just in case, I apologized to the dress creator and I will try to be even “softer” in my replies in the future.
I know what you mean about not commenting about the stuff I find shoddy – of course I say nothing about the projects I find horrific! I really found this dress lovely! And since she asked for comments I really wanted to help. I ask for comments too, of course I don’t want people to gun me down but I would like to hear their suggestions and ideas and recommendations and thoughts. I think in this case she appreciated it but you are right that it won’t always be well-received.
Anyway, no hard feelings and thanks for your reply. Have a great day!
All the best, Keren

Hi Suzete,
I don’t see how my criticism was not constructive when in fact this is exactly what the creator of the dress asked to hear. She even replied to me saying that exact same thing (you are welcome to read her reply).
I try to be very delicate when replying to others, and maybe in this case (or in others) I should have been more careful (everyone makes mistakes), but when you care about others and know that they want to hear what you REALLY think (because they asked for your opinion), I find it a more caring option to take a “risk” and say what you think in a loving way and say that these are really minor issues and the dress otherwise looks great, rather than just pay “lip service” and nod and say nothing of true value to someone who truly wants to learn and wants constructive feedback.
Please, you are welcome to read what I wrote with the above in mind, and to read the reply of the dress creator, and maybe you will see things in a different perspective.
Regards, Keren

BTW, as for the “creepy cellar” – I worked from there as well (my husband always said to everyone we know that he kept me “in the dungeon”! ;-);-);-)) and so while I wouldn’t mind (theoretically) to sew there, I would get so tired and cold from being there for 8 hours of my shift, I didn’t want to see it! ;-)
