Hey sweetie, how’s your summer going? Sewing anything new?
Jul 28, 2010, 08.26 PMby seussian
wow, I feel special!
=)
Yes I am sewing like mad, still.
I’m working on lots of new clothes for me,
a few costumes, sewing for everyone in my family who needs it, who is everyone.
Just so ya know, your blog is very entertaining.
The last post of the underwater photography was so pretty I really did gasp when I saw it.
You are sewing more cool thing aren’t you?
You know Project Runway is coming on Thursday!
I’m excited for it!
(You know, you’re sister is a very good photographer, bye the way)
God bless you, MGJ
Jul 29, 2010, 03.53 AMby melonhead
Cool, what kind of costumes? I know what you mean about family. My brother is always wanting me to sew something up for him even though he knows prefectly well how to sew! Ugh haha.
It’s good, I’m working on a couple of dresses right now. Aw thank you. Yep more is on it’s way. ; )
NO WAY!! Oh I can’t wait!! Which one has been your favorite season?
Yep. I used to be her model all the time when we were younger…it got so annoying! haha.
Jul 29, 2010, 10.38 PMby seussian
I won’t tell what I’m working on now but it’s pretty impressive and very close to being done.
It shall be up hopefully before Saturday.
I wish my brother knew how to sew, he’ll learn eventually.
Tonight’s the night!
Project Runway comes on tonight at 8 my time.
I really, really, liked last season the best.
God bless you, MGJ
Jul 31, 2010, 03.11 AMby melonhead

Jul 28, 2010, 08.34 PMby seussian
I am perfectly lovely!
I know we haven’t talked in a while,
But that shall change now.
=)
I’m sewing costumes and clothes and everything else I can think of.
What are you sewing?
You know about the show Project Runway?
It’s coming on Thursday!
I’m excited for it!
God bless you, MGJ
Jul 29, 2010, 04.38 PMby laurii
oh, how has the play been? did you already have the premiere or is it still to come? :)
I haven’t actually sewed lately… my mama wants me to fix her clothes all the time but that isn’t really fascinating! still I have some ideas about what to sew:)
yeah, I know project runway. the american seasons just never come when they’re supposed to… so it isn’t as nice to watch as it could be. and there was a finnish version of it but I think it was lame.
so long, laura
Jul 29, 2010, 10.13 PMby seussian
Yes, thankfully, the play has come and gone.
But I still have all the laundry to do, though.
What are you projects are you thinking of?

Jul 30, 2010, 04.34 PMby laurii

You’re very welcome.
I really like finding vintage fabric in thrift stores.
It gives you that unique feel that no- one else has the same thing.(plus it’s usually cheap!)

hello!
thanks for posting on my wall:) nice that you liked my projects/style. oh, I always wanted to dance ballet when I was little but my mom wouldn’t take me to the lessons. well, I don’t think I would’ve been so great at it… :D I’ve sewed for some time and I still think I’m just pretending to know what I’m doing. and it seems to me that you know what you’re doing. I’m a christian too and I’m in high school:>

Hi Laura,
Thank you for the kind words
I actually don’t take ballet, I dance around on my own every now and then (which is why I said aspiring, haha) =)
I’m in high school, too, I just finished for the summer, thankfully.
I hope you had a wonderful sunday,
By the way, my name is Marleigh (Pronounced like the dog from ‘Marley and me’) =)

May 11, 2010, 03.15 PMby laurii

I’m actually done with school for the summer (I’m very happy with that)
And, Im costuming an entire play!
My brother’s directing the play (it’s at a local library)
It’s set in the medieval time period, lots of pointed hats and things of that manner.
The auditions are in less than two weeks, I’m very excited!
God bless, Marleigh

Do you know ‘’house of hearts’?(http://www.burdastyle.com/profiles/thehouseofhearts)
It’s a lady’s username on Burdastyle, she has a nice blog(in my opinion).
she’s taking a ‘take one picture for every day of the year’ challenge.
She’s the reason I got into photography again (her and Melonhead, http://www.burdastyle.com/profiles/melonhead)
I’m off to a meeting with the producer and director of the play,
God bless you,
Marleigh

hello,
didn’t know ‘house of hearts’ before this, and the picture challenge is quite nice! :) and I really like melonhead’s pics, they’re so pretty:>
I don’t photograph so much myself, even it’s fun. especially now that my film camera hasn’t got any battery and I can’t find a proper one to it. film cameras are just way cooler than digital ones:)

melonhead’s blog is also nice.
Do you know any good blogs?
I’m trying to start a blog , though

I’ve always loved old film camera’s and polaroids, polaroids are so cool to me.

most of the blogs I read are fashion blogs and in Finnish… but here’s some I like (in English):

oh my, those blogs are lovely!
I’ve tried to like ‘current fashion’ but I’m really more of a costumer, I use older styles and decorate them, I just don’t have a feel for high fashion, I guess.
How many languages do you speak , Finnish, and English or is there more?
God bless =)
May 14, 2010, 08.13 AMby laurii
I speak Finnish and English, both quite fluently:D, and Swedish and French ok. Finland is a bilingual country so everyone should be able to speak Swedish, though many aren’t so keen about it.. how about you, do you speak other languages than English? :)

wow, that’s a long list of languages. A no, I cant speak anything but english, I took spanish for two years in school, and I still can’t speak it.

I actually have a good amount of time to sew for myself, I’m trying to finish several of my un-finished projects, I finished a dress made out of a cotton shower curtain, and I made a bag yesterday and i still have several other things to do.
Until thursday I’m free. haha =)
I literally pulled all the stuff I needed out of storage about two months ago, I just have my custon- sized sewing left.

I’m not really into musical theatre. I like it but not performing or anything like that:>
it must be really busy for you making all the costumes and so. did you get all the actors?
May 24, 2010, 08.21 PMby seussian
The auditions are tomorrow, I hope we get all the people!
I stayed up late last night sketching the princess gowns for the show.
I think it will look good in the end.
The cast is only going to be about 15 people, so it won’t be so many costumes just lots of costume changes.
I’m very tired, I cleaned my bathroom, gave my dog a bath, and took a few animals to the vet, all on about 7 hours of sleep last night. haha =)
I think I’ll go to bed early tonight. =)

I made a sash for a princess last night, and I altered a dress for the Fairy God Mother.
But guess what? I lost my cellphone and I have no idea where it is!!
oh well, God’s telling me to do without it for a while I think,

Hi Seussian, I once made a fantastic tutu using a piece of ribbon (same size as my waist) and loads of strips of tulle. Basically what you do is double up the tulle and tie it/slip knot it onto the ribbon until you fill the length of the ribbon. Then you can tie it round you and it makes a tutu. Not sure if that’s what you’re looking for but it’s dead simple to do…

At the college (Stephens College in columbia Mo.) we used purchased spanx . they are the kind cheerleaders use under their uniforms. These are a heavier weight than regular panties. If you were to use regular panties the weight of the ruffles would make the panty droop. (not very appealing) I used a stretch stitch if your maching will do that. If machine doesn’t do that ,use a narrow zig zag stitch. If you could find a girdle type brief that would be even better. If you go to the trouble of making this you definately want it to last. We used the tutus many time over. We stored them upside down to keep it stiff. When it required washing , we put it through a starch bath and hung upside down.
Apr 16, 2010, 02.56 AMby seussian
thanks, I have a pair of lycra briefs that I made a long time ago, to go under another costume, that never got used.
They are low-waisted, should I just let them go and buy a pair of Spanx?
Should the briefs have tiny ruffles on them?
I planned my layers of netting before you wrote me, and the ruffles were:
the smallest being =3in
next= 4in
next= 6in
next=7 1/2 in
next=9 1/2 in
next=12in
Last=14in
That’s too big a difference, isn’t it?
(by the way, I’m 5’3" would 14" be too wide for me?)
God bless, =)
Apr 15, 2010, 06.41 PMby janice allen
Am responding on your question about a classical tutu. I worked at a college theatrical department . We made costumes and all manner of dance costumes also. When you are making a pancake(classical) tutu you need to work in reverse. The narrowest ruffles will start right around the leg line. Picture making a ruffley skirt. the first ruffle will be the narrowest . Must be gathered veryyyyy tight. the next row will be almost as narrow No more than 1/4 " wider.Attach each ruffle to the body of panties(base). Butt the rows of ruffles very close together. It will take a lot of tulle(net) The final row will be approximately 10 to 12 inches wide. After the final row is done flip it over so that the widest row is on top. this technique will take a lot of rows and much patience. The shorter row of tightly gathered tulle are what holds up the skirt. Don’t skimp on the rows. This will look very similar to little girls ruffled pantiesexcept that the ruffles go all the way around,
Apr 15, 2010, 07.21 PMby seussian
=)
I’m so happy!
Thanks again, this is very helpful.
Do you know of a good panty/basque/base pattern I could find?
I’m kind of at a crossroad here of what to do(already I know), should the base be strechy or non-stretch?
And what about tacking, or tagging, or whatever you call it?
God bless you, =)
Apr 15, 2010, 04.26 AMby sew4my3
Wow! A tutu! My daughters did dance and I did sew a lot of their costumes for their competitions but thank goodness I never had to do their tutus. I really got to hand it to you for working with such a difficult fabric.
You asked what I was working on. I am working on a matching brother and sister outfits for a friend who recently moved away. I will post when I am finished. I am also working on a baby layette for a friend of my daughters baby shower gift. I have completed the two burp pads and bib but am in the process of lightly quilting the blanket. It is slow going as I just got back from vacation and have just started a total kitchen remodel. We have taken out a couple of walls and everything is down to the studs. We have a microwave set up in the dining room to cook with but am very limited there. I am also using the crock pot to cook with, again in the dining room as there is nothing in the kitchen.LOL Anyway, I hope to get the kitchen done soon so I can focus on my love of sewing.
What do you plan to work on next?
Apr 16, 2010, 03.29 PMby seussian
Oh my. . . . . cooking out of a microwave and a crock pot? I’ll be praying for you and your kitchen.
But, my next project(s) is that I’m costuming a show called “Beauty IS a Beast” about a princess that has a very mean heart and her fairy godmother turns her ugly on the outside, to match her ugly heart.
Lots of princess gowns.
I’ll be using at least my “Alice” dress in the show.
It’s just going to be a summer play at a local library, but it’s the second show I have entirely costumed, so I’m exited
God bless, =)
Apr 14, 2010, 02.34 PMby kiraph
Thank you so much for your very kind comment on my wall. :) I really do appreciate it.
I have only made the one tutu with non-stretch on a basque, and it was a couple of years ago now so I don’t remember too much of what I did to be honest. I do know that I made about 3 or 4 muslins before I went anywhere near the fabric. It was hardest finding a pattern for the pants of the tutu – so I had to just draft a pair and then keep adjusting. When I get a chance I will look through the info that I found and see if any of it will help you. Will let you know!
Oh, one thing though – when tacking down the layers I have recently started using a tagging gun (like they use in clothes shops) and it is the best thing ever!!!
Apr 15, 2010, 02.00 AMby seussian
Where would one get a tagging gun?
Would one use one INSTEAD of using thread to tack?Or in addition to?
This is the kind of tutu I want to make:
http://cemcatbas.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/isabelsleepingbeauty.jpg
Do you think that would that have to have a hoop? Or just heavily tacked?
Sorry for all the questions, just needing to gather information.
God bless :)
Apr 16, 2010, 05.09 AMby kiraph
I got my tagging gun off ebay. And yes I use it instead of needle and thread. If the skirt has more that 5 layers I will tack bottom ones together and then top ones into the bottom layer of tacking. Soooooo much quicker and easy just to put an extra tag in if a bit is sagging somewhere.
That is a Russian pancake tutu from the look of it and they are all pleated and stuff. I think they might have a hoop in them somewhere. I have never made one with pleating or a hoop, so I can’t help you there.
Apr 16, 2010, 12.04 PMby seussian
Well, this morning I serched ebay for ‘tagging gun’
I got back- a stapler.
hahahahahahahhaha
I guess I’ll keep looking.
God bless =)

Changing subjects now,
how are the shoes you said you were working on going?
Shoes have been a daunting task to me.
I made a pair of ‘elf ’ style shoes (you know, the ones with the pointy, curved toe?)
I’m not proud enough to put them up though- they aren’t pretty.
haha,
God bless you and your amazing crations
