seratonin commented on the project Kate Middleton/Reiss "Shola" Bandage Dress
Everything went together with no problem. I would definitely recommend the pattern.
seratonin added the project Kate Middleton/Reiss "Shola" Bandage Dress
With a few adjustments to the pattern (Lekala 4043) I was able to make a pretty decent knock-off of the Reiss bandage dress as worn by Kate Middleton.

seratonin commented on the project My Sister's Wedding Dress
I have a lot of respect for people who make wedding dresses for a living, but it’s too stressful for me. I can’t imagine even making another one, who knows though, maybe in a few years I’ll feel di…

seratonin added the project My Sister's Wedding Dress
I made this dress in about a month for my sister’s beach wedding on May 31st. It is based off of the Burda magazine pattern 4-2005-111, but about 10 inches shorter and without the sleeves. This dre…

seratonin commented on the article Holiday Giveaway Calendar: Win A Falke Turtleneck!
I’m impressed by this seamless turtle neck, I can’t imagine how it would be drafted.

seratonin commented on the project fancy schmancy silk jersey top
Lovely! Lately I’ve been really bored with sleeves—-they all seem to be puffed. Your sleeves are so unique that it’s really cheered me up. Doesn’t hurt that the shirt looks very well-made, and the…

seratonin commented on the project sewing session with my sister
I love the fabrics you used and the dresses look so cool and comfortable! I tried to teach my sister to sew once…it didn’t go so well. She says that she likes the “sweet urban garden” in your pho…

seratonin commented on the project Infinity Flesh
Once upon a time I made an infinity dress. I had an awful time keeping the straps in place and that made wearing it awkward. But yours looks so fabulous! The color and the way you’ve wrapped it is …

seratonin commented on the project My Shirt Anda!
The back looks so elegant! I especially love the binding around the sleeves and neck—the perfect touch.
seratonin added the project Simplicity 3867
I’ve been watching the HBO series Rome recently, and the costumes are so gorgeous that it’s made me really want a Roman/Grecian style dress. This pattern sort of fits the bill with pleats at the sh…
seratonin added the project Burda WOF 9/2007 tie-blouse
This is the blouse 101 lengthened into a dress. It’s very easy to make, and would fit a variety of sizes. Just add a belt!

seratonin commented on the project Purple Flowered Alison
Thanks everyone! I didn’t use a special foot, most of it was sewn on the serger, and for the rest of it I used a normal zigzag foot. I think it could use some length in the torso because the bust i…

This swimsuit was fairly easy to make. The binding piece that extends around the back and turns into the halter does not seem to require elastic. I also bound the leg holes instead of using elastic…

seratonin commented on the project black-grey Franzi vest
It looks so very smart! You’ve inspired me to dig out my herringbone fabric and have a go at making the Franzi.
seratonin commented on the project Dot Com Dress
I love the collar and neck tie. The style reminds me of dresses I’ve seen in Japanese pattern drafting books from the 1960’s.

seratonin commented on the project Green Anda Dress
I love the fabric you used! I wish I lived near an IKEA…I remember that I thought the Anda pattern was a bit boring when I first saw it, but I think it looks great the way you’ve made it up. The …

Sorry, I thought I entered in the pattern info. It’s New Look 6938. Thanks for all your lovely comments!
seratonin added the project Indonesian batik dress
Please excuse my ANTM posing. My dress was self-drafted using the “pinch, pin, & sew method.” (Not recommended—very tedious). This type of batik fabric is traditionally used in Indonesia as a saro…

seratonin commented on the project Navy Sidonie Variation 1
Thanks everyone! The shoes are from Kohls believe it or not.
seratonin added the project Brown plaid Nichola
I finally tried Sandra Betzina’s method for inserting a fly-front zipper, and I highly recommend it if you’ve ever been intimidated by zippers. I also added side pockets.
seratonin added the project Pink Leg-o-mutton top
There have been so many fabulous leg of mutton tops posted lately (many thanks to JJ!) Mine is a bit of a mix— Lydia body with leg-o-mutton sleeves. Edited to add full pic of skirt, which sadly I …
seratonin added the project Navy Sidonie Variation 1
I love the shape of this skirt. It was a quick and easy project—especially because I was able to use my serger to finish the edges and provide contrasting trim.
