Hello Rose, I hope that the members don’t arrive with pitchforks and gasoline-soaked firewood to burn down my castle. I really hate to see sloppy work. (It’s not like I never did poor work, I did. But I kept trying until pressing was a matter of habit.) Fitting was not a problem, I was working on others and had them right there for the tweaking that is always needed to make a garment perfect. I had a few good, basic patterns for my wardrobe, and not much variety. But they fit well. See you later, Nehmah/Emily (PS: I entered the word “faggots” where “firewood” is and the system was not happy. OOOPS!)

Good morning, The worst of mine was my passport photo, which looked like it should have, “Do you know this Person?” under it in a police notice in the newspapers. I read an article about this subject, where a man was asked to “please, don’t smile.” He wondered out loud why not. The police photographer replied, “Sir, who would be smiling if a police car pulled him over for speeding?”
As for PETA, while I believe that fur will always look better on an animal than a human, I have no urge to play fur squad cadet to the world. They are too often, self-important, busybodies with too much money and time on their hands. Cordially Nehmah-Guess who didn’t get up on the right side of the bed? =(

At: link scroll down looking for “The Science of Grading Patterns for Men’s, Boys’, and Children’s Clothing” There is at least one other title, but… Let us hope the link works. If not, the one at FBA post does. N

Nehmah, I don’t see a link here. I did see the txt for a link in the FBA stuff yesterday and was trying to work my way through those books. (Grading seemed to refer to the grading of fur in some of those books. Hee, Hee. Wouldn’t PETA have fun with that.)

Look at the above message. After “At:” run cursor over “link” and it will underline. That’s the link. A bit basic, but I am still learning to-do. Cordially, Nehmah

Thanks, Nehmah. Oh the old site links were a different text color. Mousing over text is a pain to find the links. Wonder if it was design intent….. Naw. I won’t even get started on this sites designers again.

Back again, I found the Harry Simon book on one of the websites. I will be back w/address. BTW, I found his name at Fashion Incubator blogsite. N

Hi Rose, I will post the sites with these books. One of the authors had a rather different look. More ike a spider web drawing than a rectangle. I cannot recall which one it is. Two of the best sites, with"brief" explanations go up today. Emily

I have come to the same conclusion. The bolt only works if the webmasters (HAH- Masters of idleness!) get off their duff and take out the trash. They must all be teenagers at heart. Nehmah

Hi,I tried to post an answer to you but it wound up on my wall. As it’s a tad personal, I shall try to delete. Let us ship DD off to a galaxy far, far away. But, only after she returns all of your missing “stuff” Cordially, Emily/Nehmah

May I take it that DD is too tall/strong/impudent for maternal scolding and thumps on the earhole to work? Sorry, I have two adult (more or less) kids like that) Cordially, but crabby about a FBA Nehmah

I will agree about the Elixir of Life. If I don’t have 2 mugs before 9 AM, leave me alone. I’m not worth shooting! You are most likely correct re: programmers. The notion struck me very early with this site that they had chosen the cheapest way to set up. Since the problems would affect us, they didn’t worry overmuch. The site opened, I believe, in February of 2007. When the spam lads started hitting their creations, there was a flurry of feathers from the Team. I understand, but am not positive, that spam actually shut down the site early on. I joined in Oct. 2007, and there were still problems. This spam is a far more serious problem but they can’t see it. I guess that knowing Munich would be carrying the ball made it not a problem for them any longer. About TSF, it was never intended to be a commercial venture. The owner is a decent fellow whose wife is a member, now there’s a shocker! He has something to do with IT and/or SA. I don’t figure it’s my business what he does, so long as he keeps the Forum up and running. ;) All we can do is wait and see. I don’t expect much but look for higher prices. Who knows, perhaps we will have access to the BF free patterns. Keep well, look both ways when crossing a street, and stay in touch. Emily

Hi, I thought that this was going to your wall, but noooo. It’s on my wall. Anyhow, you are correct, patterns, blog, relevant discussions are running into a wall. Last week I kept getting bounced- I can’t recall the last time that happened other than here. Not since the late ‘80s or 90’s. Enjoy your weekend. I intend to rest and get some recreational sewing done. (this is also called “mend your duds or go nekkid” time. Nehmah/Emily

I am ready for some recreational downtime, period after my 2600 miles of fun vacation to the grand canyon and vegas. Have fun on getting your recreational sewing done. If all else fails, you can make some of those sarong/pareo wraps from your how-to and wear those (if Columbia is like Plano, they are kind of prudish on the nekkid look. Something about Southern Baptist values throughout this swath of Texas although I grew up Episcopalian.)

Hi ralarkins,
No, I didn’t make the instructions, I didn’t have the time. The pattern is really simple, you shouldn’t have problems with it. However, fell free to contact me if you need some help.

Hahaha, I guess you’ll manage it ;)

Hello, thanks for your comment on my ruffly shirts! The fabric for the ruffles did come from the same t-shirts. The old shirts I’ve been working with are all pretty large sizes, so once I cut out the tank top shape I still have a good amount of left over material to work with.

Hi, thanks for your reply to my forum query. For some strange reason, I can now add comments. I was ‘gagged’ for two days and found it really frustrating. I still don’t know what the problem was but it is over now!
The photos of your dogs are beautiful – they have such soulful eyes! I look forward to seeing some of your creations soon. Happy sewing.

haha, i hear ya! Well, if you made one with velcro like I did, its super easy to adjust and readjust to keep it tightly secured where you want it! I didn’t follow any pattern. It is just 2 squares, i think i did 1.5 or 2 inch squares (i cant remember!), with a 1/4in seam allowance. BUT the thing is, after I sewed them together, I boxed off the corners to make it a cube-type thing. Then i stuffed it and used thread to go from the center out inbetween the corners. if you’d like i could make a little how-to. its super easy but there are some tricks i have that you might find useful :)

Hello ralarkins! Thank you for the very sweet compliment on my belly dance costume and for saying how lucky my daughter is to have mommy like me! I really think that I am the lucky one, as my daughters are so sweet and level headed! I miss them very much as they are in college in Georgia, but they came home last week and had to go back Saturday. Anyway, Again I thank you!

Hey! I saw that you commented about the Dallas group on the blog. I wanted to let you know that I am the leader for the Denton group. I actually will be living in Aubrey, about 15 minutes from Frisco, in September. So we are relatively close together. To be completely honest, I am very new to sewing… but thought I’d volunteer because I am desperately wanting others to sew with! Let me know if you’re interested in my group! :) -Sarah

Thanks for the tips on the photography – the irony is that my dad used to be a photographer! Too funny. I guess I’m just a bit slack with getting the photo right …..

Hello ralarkins! You had asked about what name in Etsy you could buy the bow ties. It is under the Burdastyle name. There is also past garments from the patterns for sell. Go take a look!

I think I will buy him some earplugs lol, he was complaining about the humming of the machine; however I think the real challenge will be to use the machine while on the phone with him and not have him hear that haha. Since I got the machine to work i’ve been going a little nuts.. well nuts on my scale. I just made two more things today, small things, but big for me lol.

I know, they just don’t realize how much people can learn about them by looking at the work they do. I don’t know if you saw the first three “Project Runway” shows this season. There was a man on there, Mitchell. Decent designer, but no sense whatsoever of how to sew, or press. I cannot understand how he held on as long as he did. If he can’t sew, what was he doing there? I was pleasantly surprised by the courteous behavior of the judges. After Fred’s “Hell’s Kitchen”, “American Idol”, Chopped", and the like, I was prepared for a cat-fight. Not so. All in all not a bad way to relax. Keep well, and I wonder what will be served up for Monday’s treat. Emily

I looked through the slideshows of the dresses for last 4 episodes. They do have the episodes available on line, maybe I will watch them. Reading the comments left by readers was a hoot. If anyone thinks we are mean…. some of those comments make us look like sweet babes in arms. Simplicity has a chore on their hands to figure out what they can turn into a pattern. I saw only 2 that would be sew-able to the home sewer.
