Hey qsogirl, I have a quick question for you about the pattern you used for your Mr. Darcy costume. I’m going to buy this pattern to make for my boyfriend who is quite tall and skinny, I’m not sure whether to get the medium or the large for him. What size pattern did you start with for your project, since your Mr. Darcy seems to also be rather tall and skinny? :)

Hi ncn6— Sorry it’s taken me so long to get back to you, I just saw your message for the first time this evening. I used the size large for my husband, since that matched his measurements the closest. I’m not very good at altering patterns, especially fitting torsos. However, I did significantly lengthen the trousers and the jacket (maybe 1.5" to 2"?). It turned out that the jacket was just right, and I probably could have lengthened the trouser legs even more— there was barely enough to turn up and hem them. It seems that patterns are made for short men ;-) I hope this helps, and I wish you the best in making a suit for your Mr. Darcy! :)

Hey qsogirl, thanks for the insight. I ended up going with the L — my boyfriend’s chest measurement would put him in the M range, but I’m afraid that a medium would be too small in the shoulders. We’ll see, I could be wrong and he’ll end up looking like a Mr Darcy football player. Thanks for the tip on the pants length. I’ll be sure to add plenty of extra since my Mr Darcy is 6’6"!
