Hey Peter, did you notice how all of your projects ended up in the MadMen-roundup?! I guess menswear is still pretty uncommon as they seemed to just use the words “men and mad” in the search bar and posted everything they ended up with. Too funny but you deserved it, your projects are great.
Sep 8, 2010, 02.15 AMby Peter Lappin
Hi! No, I don’t know what you’re referring to. Is that something here on BurdaStyle?
Sep 8, 2010, 02.21 AMby Peter Lappin
OK, wait — now I get it! That’s funny — I think it’s just anything with the name “men” in it!

Hey Peter, check out my harem pants. I was inspired by you to make a pair. Thank you!

those pants are really wonderful sir. It must be satisfying to have hand made pants. I might just have to try to make myself a pair some day. thank you for the inspiration.

I remember you complaining about there not being enough interesting men’s sewing patterns. Well, I found some: http://www.pastpatterns.com/men.html http://www.westernpatterns.com/westpat1_003.htm http://www.kannikskorner.com/patmen.htm

I very much favor the vintage patterns, too. They are timeless! I especially love dressing my children in vintage because too much of the modern stuff tries to make children look like mini adults. Keep sewing and bringing it back!
Mar 14, 2010, 07.03 PMby lmb
Great vintage style you have! Keep sewing so I can see more.

Hey Peter!
This is what I came up with based on the pattern. I decided I didn’t really like the seat of the boxers, so I made it a skirt instead. It ended up a little big, so I was lazy and just made the waistband adjustable to my size instead of really fixing it… I think it doesn’t look that great in the pictures, but it looks cute in real life, I promise :)
Mar 8, 2010, 01.01 PMby Peter Lappin
Hey, RJ, they are SO cute. Believe me, no one takes more shortcuts than me, so no explaining is necessary!
Very creative use of the pattern and I know how much work they were. Would you mind if I shared this photo on my blog, Male Pattern Boldness? I think my readers who love to see it. Let me know.
You can email me directly at peterlappinnyc@gmail.com.
Thanks!

Hey! I love your work. I actually ordered the 1945 boxer pattern to see if I could adjust them to my size and wear them as shorts! Thanks for the inspiration!

That’s great. So glad you were able to track them down! Good luck with them. Peter

Hello I read your article on why more men don’t sew. I’m pretty much a beginner … I want to sew to save money on clothing. Not so much as making my own clothing … more like alteriations, hemming and customizations. I recently purchased a sewing awl because I want to make a pair of boots. Male patterns are extremely difficult to find for the things I am interested in making. Your article was good
