Hi Honey, Your last post on my wall melted my heart. I adore your imagination. I’ve spent the past few months wrapped up in it! And… work sewing does take a certain discipline. It also opens up the repertoire. Importantly, don’t let it stifle your own creative projects – I want to see more of them soon please xo :)

Dear Nessy, Thank you for taking the time to check it. I appreciate your support and it truly means a lot to me. I wanted to do this a long ago because I really love what I do and I thought I might give this a try. At least I won’t be haunted by what ifs…
Thank you again! Maya

Hi Nessy, Happy new year! What is this “work” sewing of which you speak? Do you mean it’s not for gorgeous garments that you can flaunt? And are you being rewarded for these feats? After so many lovely chats, I feel like we are friends. I created a little website for friends and family to see what I’ve been up to and it’s on my profile page if you’d like to have a look. ;) Chat soon, Pashie

My sweet Pashie – Thank you! Wishing you too all the very best for the new year.
It was a lovely treat to receive your message and to have the privilege to peep at your lovely Livingstone my friend! Such an incredible place to live, so rich with history and beauty! I will definitely be a regular visitor there.
I have started doing some paid sewing work and I do get paid for it – but I find it hard to charge people so I am certainly not going to get rich from it! It keeps me busy and helps further my skills, which is always good. I haven’t popped any of the garments up on BurdaStyle – because they are pretty boring. I am also whipping up some “designer” throw cushions for my friend’s new boutique home wares store.
Always so lovely to hear from you my Sweets – I have missed you and your lovely creations!
PS – I love that “Best of 2010” in the sewing room – beautiful little montage and the music is heavenly!

Thank you Nessy! I love boleros and when I saw that I can actually sew on out of the remaining fabric I was really happy! And yes, from the pictures it does seem like it is a constituent part of the dress! As for the ruffles… I can’t help it! I am addicted to ruffles and flounces.. what can I do?! Thanks for being a huge support! xxx Maya

Hi Nessy! As always I greatly enjoyed seeing your comment on my new dress! I haven’t made much things for me in the past couple of months so I really enjoy wearing this one! As a matter of fact there is another dress I made (Japanese inspired) waiting to be hemmed and embellished!
On a different note, I still get gibberish from the site – yesterday I couldn’t log in with my very own password and I’ve noticed that, reported through my Activity feed, I am actually favoriting my own creations! How silly is that! Luckily that doesn’t show in my favourites section…. I have also been unable to follow my friends’ new creations…
Oct 16, 2010, 08.15 AMby nessys
Well, I wouldn’t blame you for favoring your own creations – they’re fabulous!!
I really miss the site working properly, and following friend’s creations – I hope they it sorted out this time. Lovely to hear from you as always xxxxxxx

Hi Nessy, lovely to see you. You have a new profile picture which is great btw! No, I haven’t posted anything new yet! There will be something if manage to scrape myself from the computer chair. Oh, the joys of being a freelancer!

oooo… a new profile pic! Is that one of your feathered friends you’re holding? And a new header – what fabulous old spools and I love the vintage patterns too :D :D :D

Thanks Darl! And yes, that is my birdie “Pecks”! A left over from the birdie skirt “fashion shoot”! My husband liked it better that the last profile pic.
The vogue pattern on top is actually the suit I made many years ago! xxx

Hi Nessy
I didn’t realise that you were in Adelaide too! I got the fabric for my tunic from Spotlight, but it was the last bit on the roll, unfortunately!
I just did a spot of shopping at the Lincraft 50% off sale, so it looks like my next project is going to be a pair of jeans, rather than another tunic… roll on the weekend!
Take care

I know Honey, what are the odds? Two Burda fashionistas called Vanessa from Adelaide!
50% off at Lincraft! Wow – I had better get myself there! Good luck with the jeans – can’t wait to see them too! xxxx

Nessy, I am ever so glad you like my carnation tutorial. Mostly because the project is so rewarding – you can make a variety of things with them! And get instant satisfaction because it is a) a non-sew project, and b) it can be done in a matter of minutes. As for the Syracuse dress – I am flattered with your lovely comment and glad that you perceive the creation as you’ve written. THANK YOU a bunch for being there to brighten up my creation page with your sweet comments!

Dear Nessy, I am so glad to receive such lovely comments from you! Thank you! The bouquet came as a wonderful refreshment to some gloomy angles in the house but the dusting is yet to be solved. The white top seems great for wear but it hasn’t had its debut yet ;) (If you don’t count the showing off in front of the mirror.) At the moment the cuff is my favourite. I was trying it with other pieces of clothing to see what I can combine it with!

Nessy, you are so sweet. Thanks for commenting on both my dress and top! And I’m glad you noticed my crochet piece on my bike, I just learned how to do it in my fibers class last semester and I’ve gone a little crazy trying to crochet everything haha.
Jun 28, 2010, 02.05 AMby nessys
Your bike reminded me of this doco I saw on tv a while back about “graffiti crocheters” who went around “tagging” bits of the city with bits of crochet .. .I thought that was cool! xxx

Dear Nessy, thank you on the great compliment on my dress and my hair :) You know what they say: “It’s all about the genes”! You should see my mom’s hair! Even better and curlier than mine (and blond) mind you. Although to be honest I never wanted to be blond (shudder at the thought of it – I love my hair colour to eternity and back). And thank you on the support!
Jun 14, 2010, 11.32 AMby sewella
Thank you! I think the colour suits her perfectly!

oh, I hope, I hope to see your latest creation, too! And will there be a touch of Eurovision in there? ;) When I saw your status on the weekend all I could think was “oh, no, not yellow leather!”
Jun 3, 2010, 10.53 AMby nessys
Well I was thinking sequined hot pants like one of the acts wore this year!!! (Must Google which country that was . . . or maybe not . . !!) ;)
Actually – the dress is quite conservative (I think after Lolly Shop I was due!) But I did notice that the lovely German girl who won wore a nice conservative dress . . . AND she had the best song! (And I have 200 something Europeans who agree with me!) Not sure if I will get it done by Sunday – my set in sleeves are proving “fiddly”!

Dear Nessy, I thank God for having friends here that praise my work with so lovely and rich comments that touch me so much I melt down and then take a while to scratch myself from the floor because my poor ego doesn’t let go. THANK YOU! Most of all for the support and the attention! Oh and as a side note; I believe pink would look gorgeous on you due to your complexion!
May 24, 2010, 05.22 AMby nessys
Darling – you deserve every word – you are an inspiration – and thanks for the “pink tip”! xxx

Thanks for the praise… and if I ever upload the pattern, shall let you know!

Thanks Darl – and I must say that Merino Wool sounds like heaven – being in Tassie – you’ll need something warm like that!
Hubby & I are thinking of visiting in a few weeks – I’ve never been before but I am sure I will need some thermal undies!!

Dear Nessy, thank you on the lovely comment! Yes, I’ve been busy but for some creations months ago – they need a bit of finishing here and there. I have a pile waiting for that. I am glad you liked the shirt! Really appreciate the attention!

Ooooh on a roll? What are you doing?
Mar 25, 2010, 08.12 AMby nessys
Hiya Abby Sweetie! I am having a go at Kristen #6046!
I had to make a lot of adjustments on the bodice, and been procrastinating like crazy! But it all seems to have paid off so far . . . . got a bit to go though!! Wish me luck!!!!
Mar 23, 2010, 03.19 AMby Passiona Cottee
Go girl!
Mar 21, 2010, 09.32 AMby Passiona Cottee
Hi Nessy, You have got me wondering, what are you procrastinating over? I bet it is something sensational, and I can’t wait to see it. Well, I can wait… it’s just that you’ve got me in suspense ; )
Mar 22, 2010, 03.39 AMby nessys
Hi Darl – lovely to hear from you! Well, I am working on something – but I wish I could spend more time sewing it and less time procrastinating on it!! I hope it works out! All will be revealed!!! xxxxxx

ha! I also worked on my stash yesterday – from 11pm-3am. It was taking over the space, I had to make room for the machine whenever I needed to sew something, it was chaotic. I guess I’m a hoarder. Recycling clothes is so fun, but now I can’t throw anything away and the pile keeps growing…
Feb 13, 2010, 12.26 AMby nessys
Oh yes – if you’re not careful it will take over the house Darl! Especially if you are like me, and can’t bear to throw away all the little “bits” left over after cutting a project out!!! I tell myself “you have to be strong”!!! xxx

Thank you Nessy for the lovely comment on Eva’s pinky pants! I just had a glimpse of your green jewel and I am heading over to it to enjoy it thoroughly! See you there!
Feb 3, 2010, 12.28 PMby sewella
Now, Nessy you are really going to make me blush! Well, to tell the truth I feel as if someone has put a sewing spell on me and I can’t shake it off. Kidding. I usually end up work before the kids come back from school and I use that time to make things, and sometimes I work after I put them to bed. I am truly grateful for the awesome comment you left on the jacket. Thank you!
P.S. When is the creation to be revealed (Vogue 8469)?

All your creations are so lovely – and you must be some sort of Super Hero!! (Sewer by night -molecular biologist by day!!) You have a certain feel of “Batman” about you!!! xxxx

Yay for the overlocker! What did you get?

Thanks Darl! It is a second hand Janome 644D.
I am a sucker for Janomes – mainly because I’ve used one of their overlockers before (different model) and because we have so many of their stores here that give support and parts. I spent a nervous 20 mins threading it up yesterday (despite it being easier to thread that one I used before) with wonderful results! I keep looking at it and blowing it kisses…. husband is getting jealous!!! ;) Still can’t believe it’s all mine! Hope you and family are well – lovely to hear from you! xxx
