Hi Ms Gems, Baby ferrets! How wonderful. What are they’re names. I used to have a ferret, Bill. He never got bigger than 1.5 pounds. Ferrets are SOOOOO cute! And, you’ve moved? Busy girl. ;D I’ve been doing my photography work and sewing away. How else have you been doing? <3 Cheyenne

They are called Kafka and Poe. They’re pretty much full grown now, they’re soooo goofy! If you have an email address I can email you pictures!
Other than that I havent really done much. My sister had a baby in December which was lovely. He’s called Omari and is gorgous.

Hey Prairieponygirl, nice to hear from you! Happy belated Christmas and New Year to you too.
I’ve been really busy lately so sewing has gone on the back burner. But I intend to do more this year once I have sorted myself out.
So I moved flats, and I got 2 baby ferrets who have been keeping me busy (they’re now not too small, I think they are around 5-6 months old now and adorable)
So what have you been up to? x

OOoooo! I can’t wait to see your dress! That sounds terrible what your friend has, I hope she gets better soon. :-) I’m going out some time soon to take photos of the dress. Um… BBC wise, I just finished “North and South” and “Little Dorrit”. They were both SO good! I really loved “North and South” Have you seen them?

      Jul 9, 2010, 12.58 PMby msgems

I’ve def. heard of them but cant quite think if I have seen them!! I’m sure I have – remind me what they’re about?
My friend has lots of things wrong with her unfortunately, she’s always poorly, its really sad, but I’m sure we’ll get out to do some pictures soon :-)

If you need some one to take photographs, I’m free. :) I’m sure she’ll be up and about soon. :-) The BBC dramas- “Little Dorrit” is by Charles Dickens. A very good rag to riches and happiness story. And Matthew Macfadyen is in it, so of course it’s wonderful, yet very tense. I think “North and South” came from a book also, but I’m not too sure. It’s a lot like “Pride and Prejudice”. The girl hates the boy, but he is good, he’s can just be prickly. Very good too. ;-) I think you should have a marathon! Thank you so much for the comment on my new dress. :-)

Hey Esther. What have I been up to lately?? Well I’ve been super busy with work and travelling about, plus my American Aunt and Uncle have been over for a few weeks so been entertaining them…. sooo to relax I’ve been getting into my movies too! I’ve been getting into some 80’s classics that I have missed or ones which I loved when I was a kid. Have you seen The NeverEnding Story, Willow, Manaquin, Coming to America… also on my list to watch is Pretty in Pink (never seen this), The Breakfast Club (never seen this either)… and loads more!! I recommend them!! I dont think I have seen Across the Universe but I am absolutely going to get that! Sounds great. Did you get my recommendations on facebook? I’m going to try and get some pictures taken at the weekend of the backlog of things I have made recently to put on here. Also Ben (my special man) tried on a coat I made for me and it looks great on him, so I am making one for him but putting a manly spin on it!
Let me know what you think of the films… I’ll let you know what I think of the Beatles one :-)

Oh cool that sound like fun. I actually wasn’t allowed to watch The Never Ending Story when I was little. We have some pretty funny stories like that. When my older siblings were little they weren’t allowed to watch Winne the Pooh, because he sang the song, “I’m short fat and proud of that, in the mood for food.” Haha. Pretty in Pink is really good. You should watch Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, it’s another great 80s classic. Yep the ones on my status. I added them to my list. :) Oo Cool I can’t wait to see the stuff you’ve made!

    • Me_2_large

      Apr 15, 2010, 07.22 AMby msgems

HA HA – do you think youa re allowed to watch it now?? There’s a bit in it that makes me cry everytime!! Whats wrong with the Winnie the Pooh song?? My Dad used to call me Tubbs when I was a kid – might be why I think I am fat now… parents are sooo damaging! lol… I’ve downloaded Ferris Bueler so got that ready to watch too… Right – another tedious day at the office ahead of me… whoooo

      Apr 16, 2010, 02.24 PMby melonhead

Haha I don’t know actually….I could always just do a little teenage rebel action and watch it anyway. Haha I know. My mom use to be over weight so she didn’t want them thinking it was ok to be big. But she lost over 90 pounds last year! Parents come up with the worst nicknames! My dad use to call me Carrots all the time and I hated it! Well have fun at work today.

    • Me_2_large

      Apr 16, 2010, 03.00 PMby msgems

Ha ha… that would be a great way to rebel… watching the Never Ending Story!! Sounds like a parents dream… I think my parents would have loved that rather than what I did… hee hee… ahem… moving on.. I am sooooo glad its Friday. Still trying to decide what I can post you that would be exciting… any ideas? Did he call you carrots because you have red hair?? My Dad called me Tubbs cos I was a chubby child… sniff sniff… now I am super hyper aware of what I look like, not in a vain way, but I really hate how I look, I blame the parents! My Mum is ultra skinny, I found out recently from my Aunt that she was anorexic since the age of 9 when her Dad died, and that she doesnt eat as she is lonely.. its really sad!!… hmmm.. not sure what I just told you that!! Phew – its the weekend :-)

Oh sorry I totally forgot to reply. Haha I would like to here that story. Yeah it got so annoying. There was this old show called Anne of Greengables and the main character had red hair and everyone called her carrots. That’s where my dad got the idea…I hate that show. Aw I’m sorry. Well he can’t call you that anymore. I love the way you look! You’re Gorgeous an don’t ever think anything else. Wow at age 9?

No – indeed he cant and if he did I’d have to kick box his ass… hee hee…
Does he still call you carrots or has it died out? If not you should think of a good and irritating name for him too… I’m sure he means it in an affectionate way :-)
Do either of you other siblings have red hair??

    • Dsc_0895icelowres_-_copy_large

      Apr 21, 2010, 01.48 PMby melonhead

Thanks. They were a pain to make…but I guess everybody has bad reviews of the pattern I used. Haha. He used to, until I started calling him baldy every time he said it. Every now and then he calls me it, but I just let it go. No, all my siblings have black or dark brown hair. I get it form my Grandma. I look like no one in my family, which can come in handy at times. Haha.

I’ll swap you??? I’d love a little bit of daylight and warmth. Hove is on the south coast.. its part of Brighton which is a sea side city… back in the “old times” folks would come to Brighton for holidays (back when people didnt fly etc). Hove is supposed to be the posh part of Brighton but its not really!! But its a fun place to live. Brighton is a bit like London in that there are lots of things to do and its kind of the home of the creative and eccentric people. I love it. :-)

Hey there Ms. Gems, (love that name) :) Uh… well. Yes our farm is fun to say the least. We grow organic food. We don’t have that much property so, we don’t have enough space to grow that much. So it’s just really a “hobby”. (we don’t make much money if any.) :) We grow vegetables and raise organic chickens. Yes. In sort a great deal of fun. :)

I’ll upload a picture of my dress although its really not perfect as I was using it as a trial. I have some really pretty material which I was thinking of making it in but didnt want to make it until I had tried the pattern – hence why I made it out of a bedsheet! Its actually really easy! When I got started I knew nothing about it yet after reading alot and doing a few of the virtual labs I learned alot- as far as business goes I usually sell about one hat a week(during a good month) but I dont advertise. To get traffic I mainly use: word of mouth, linking my projects on here to it, facebook, and relisting an item or two every day reeeeaaaallly helps! I usually gain just a bit of money to help buy more yarn and fabric for myself, but there is definitely a big market out there for Etsy and I have met some people who have turned it into their career-so I say go for it! Honestly if you and your man can put your hearts into it, take great pictures, and network there is really no limit on how well you could do, so yeah if you ever have any random questions just ask- I would be glad to help!

Thanks :-)) Its really good to have someone to run ideas by and just generally find out how these things work! Yeah I think we’ll def start doing something very soon, we both enjoying doing this sort of stuff anyway but making some cash out of it can only be a bonus!!

Lots of my friends keep telling me I should sell my stuff, at the moment I am just making random things and clothes for myself or my friends but I dont really need all these things if you know what I mean.. only so many coats I can wear at one time!!

Do you work or are you a student?? We’re both quite arty – I’m more crafty and he did an illustration degree at Uni (and is amazing, got the highest marks possible – me = proud) but we’re both doing very boring jobs which really isnt fulfilling our creative outlets… I’m an accountant, god help me, and he’s still refusing to get a “proper job” and so temps doing admin stuff!

Oh haha sorry. I’ve been sewing. Ugh I’m contemplating wether or not to skip it. I made up a couple other dress designs that could replace it, so I’m seeing. ; ) How about you? What have you been up too? I love the rain coat by the way, it turned out beautifully!

Thanks! I’m really pleased with it too and it kept me dry in Bruges!! :-)
I’ve not been up to much other than Xmas madness. My Aunt sent me a new pattern from US so thats my next project I think. Its a Butterick vintage dress.
Oh, and I have a holiday booked – very excited, going to New Orleans and Biloxi with my sister for mardi gras in aid of my birthday! Cant wait.
Have a great Christmas. Off to my parents now. Whoo!

haha that’s ok. I’ve done that before. Have you tried checking out Wall-mart? I don’t know if they’ll have raincoat fabric but, they have some sweet deals on fabric. That’s a good idea I’m gunna have to test that one out. :)

If only… I live in the UK so we dont have a Wal-Mart :-( I have been to one though, my Aunt and Uncle live in Georgia and I visit them quite regularly.
I managed to find some in the end though – you would think that living in the rainiest country (England) I would easily be able to find raincoat material but oh no… I found one web-site and it was really expensive! I’d better make a good job of it!
I had another idea for you for your foil dress… do you want the foil to be out / exposed or would it be ok to have it coated on the outside! You can get fablon (sticky back plastic and put that on it – guaranteed no crinkles).
Let me know what you think! :-)

Ugh!! The dress I’m making I don’t want it being crinkly. I’m trying to get it not to crinkle…which is pretty hard with foil. Did you find a fabric for your raincoat yet?
