hey ! :)
i’ve been stalking your blog all morning :P just wanted to leave a note and say that seeing your “Le petite manchette” last year sometime totally inspired me – and now i go to toi! :) it’s been crack up going through your costume posts and trying to spot parts of the costume room in the background. :P

Thanks for your great message… are you studying costume construction? Whoo hooo I inspired someone that totally awesome to hear.
My blog as been a tad neglected of late but I am happy you have been stalking it. Just took a peek at your studio and your stuff is amazing, I can see why Toi wanted you.
Well have fun there and keep me posted on your creations… love the jumping bunny profile pic.

Hello Minniethemink, Just realized you are living in Wellington. I have two great NZ friends from there, and as the world is small perhaps you know them: Dan Beban and Nell Thomas… just asking in case. One day I don’t know when I am hoping to visit;)
Feb 22, 2010, 07.45 PMby minnietheminks
Hello! Yes Wellys you should come visit, come in September when the World of Wearable Art is on, tres fabulous!
I don’t know your friends by name but I probably know them by sight, Welly is a compact city, he he :) I betcha I meet them now.
Feb 22, 2010, 08.08 PMby carottesauvage
Well if you often go to gigs, you may encounter a ginger guy (30ish) with a constant smile on his face either playing a banjo, yukule, guitar etc… cool guy. Small scene ….
Yeah meant to visit NZ sometime

Hey there fellow Wellingtonian! How long have you been living here? I’ve never come across someone else who lives here on burdastyle. And just looking at your photo I think i recognise you. Little old Wellington huh? Wonderful creations btw
Feb 22, 2010, 07.42 PMby minnietheminks
Hello :) Little ole Welly indeed. I have been here for nearly four years. I loves it.
It is funny how you see people in Welly over and over again and you don’t know them personally but you see them all the time. He he.
I am going to be looking out for you now!
Feb 25, 2010, 03.30 AMby alanagrace
I just realised that i think i recognise you from burdastyle, not Wellington. Haha.
I totally know what you mean, recognising people daily but not knowing them.
Did you go to the costume school on Taranaki St? I think there’s one there and I have a friend in her first year this year.

i miss aberdeen terribly, i think nz would be better as its more like scotland,my husband is from perth so were here for a bit, till we escape to the world,,ha ha,, you have snow over there lucky things,, what are you working on next, ive been very tentative, in my progects, but about to touch my first base with jacket. its a slow progress i always thought id do dressmaking at some point,, i wish i had time for lessons, but my little mini beasts keep me so busy !!! here my husband made me potato scones yesterday
Feb 22, 2010, 07.39 PMby minnietheminks
It is a little bit more Scotty in the way parts of the country looks and its very green… but that means it rains more. You don’t get snow in Welly :(
I kinda have a mad costume to work on next for someone but for me I need to make a new hoody, a stylish one of course :)
Potato scones you say… YUM!!!!!
Feb 19, 2010, 04.08 AMby gillthecat
cool where you from in highlands im from aberdeen, i miss it a lot but hey ho were here in perth stinking hot just now,, those ruffle pants you made were jsust lovely there looks to be quite a lot of good sewers in nz,, whys that i wonder, im novice but keen maybe in 20 years ill be good,, i hope,, the marimeko fabric is so l,ovely 6 meters and perfect god knows what ill dae with it but it was 5 dollars, surely bargain of the century
Feb 19, 2010, 07.48 AMby minnietheminks
I am from Wick… I studied in Aberdeen for a year. Yeah I miss it too, espeically the lovely soft light so bright over here.
I think there is heaps of good sewers in NZ becuase in years gone by you just did not get the fashions ready made etc, so mother taught daughter etc… it does seem to be about learning from your mistakes with sewing thats for sure! I do plenty of those, he he. Nice to meet you in a cyber kinda way :)

Your work is amazing and its neat to hear you strated at night classes which of course have now gone. I am a costume designer in Hamilton and also was teaching night classes which I am continuing in my costume studio. I wish I had known about your showcase it would have been worth a trip to Welly – best city in NZ. Keep up the good work.

The showcase was so inspiring! The standard of work was absolutely incredible. My daughter loved it too and she is very interested in doing the costuming course after she leaves school (she was keen on fashion design before but now thinks that fashion is boring and costuming looks like a lot more fun after having seen the showcase). We’re both feeling really motivated after seeing all the amazing costumes so I think I know what we’ll be doing in the school holidays. Looking forward to seeing more of your wonderful creations :-)
Nov 25, 2009, 10.54 AMby minnietheminks
Hiya, finally I have time to breath and reply to you. Thank you for coming along to showcase. It was such a blast to see everybodys work on stage after working so hard.
Glad to hear there may be another costumier in the making. I think in my holidays I will be sewing too… for myself at last, ha ha.
Hopefully see you again, keep in touch x

You are officially amazing! Had a look through your projects and your stuff is fab!! I am now super inspired again, been having a bit of a lull of late but looking through your stuff and reading about you on the front page has really made me feel back ‘on it’! Cant believe you only started a few years ago, i am a beginner and sometimes it feels like Im never going to get to as high a standard as the likes of you and other talented folk on here! Thanks so much for sharing x

Hi,
It’s so cool to see a fellow Wellingtonian featured! And I recognise some of your creations – my boyfriend is in the Third Year acting class at Toi, so one of his classmates wore that beautiful cabaret dress you made and another wore the Macbeth costume. Awesome work – it’s so heartening for a beginner to read that you only began sewing 2 and a half years ago!

Hi, thanks for your message :) Welly is a great place, I love it. Do you know we are having our Costume Showcase on the 17th of September, you should come along.
You can see my early work in my studio and how I have improved. I went to Wellington High School at first to do night classes in sewing, it really helped.
I will be hosting a craft night soon, you should come along if you like, the girls from class and some other friends too, we do mostly hand sewing, knitting, felting, what ever you want to bring along. Your more than welcome.
Sep 12, 2009, 12.15 AMby cjnz
Hi, yes a few of my workmates who are sewers are coming along to the costume showcase, we’re looking forward to it. The craft night sounds great, I’m just getting into knitting as well so would love to come along and bring my latest project. My boyfriend is Guy so I’ll get him to give you my email address this coming week and you can let me know when and where it’s going to be (or just let him know the details and he can pass them on to me).

Hi and thanks for commenting on my wall. No, I would have loved to make it to the stitches and craft show but unfortunatelt due to work and family commitments I was unable to make it. I feel awful because it was only 20 minutes away and yet I know lots of people travelled from interstate! Maybe next time. P.S. I love your photos on your profile page – I’m especially envious of your sewing room!
