Hi Miasu ! Thanks for posting your Contour Bust Tute. I thought I recall you blogging about this somewhere, yes? no? I thought you blogged about how to take your own measurements and then how to apply your measurements to your pattern pieces. Is this correct? If so, can you post your blog where I can view it again? If I am incorrect, thank you just the same.

I actually have not blogged about it. I believe there is another pattern floating around here (check the free patterns; it’s on like the 3rd page or something and is pretty obvious which one) that gives instructions for this (which apparently only works for small busts). I’m going to be straight-up and say that I normally just fudge measurements by eyeing the pieces. Extend the back/sides if you have a larger ribcage. Sorta reduce the curve of the contour across the bust to accommodate a smaller chest. Increase for a larger one. This pattern is flexible and forgiving, largely. It’s also kinda wonky, so I apologize for that. If you have any other questions, please let me know!

Your contour bust dress is super cute. Another girl ashchaser (sp?) has a dress named natasha that looks exactly like yours. Weird. Yours was up here for a full year before hers though. <3

Hey Miasu.
I was wondering what your measurements are, specifically bust, waist, and hips just so I can get an idea if I have to alter the Contour Bust Dress pattern or not. Thanks for the pattern by the way…I can’t wait to make it.Aug 9, 2010, 02.45 AMby miasu
Hi, I realize this reply is super super late, I’m sorry! I never really check on my Burda account D:
Anyway, my measurements at the time were about 35-25-35.. I’m a bit larger now (heh..), but I still use this pattern. I simply extend the back piece. The bustline is very forgiving and accommodates a range of sizes, so it’s really easy to alter! Good luck, and sorry again about the late response!

Hey , Those measurements are close to mine and I actually already made it, but the dress falls down so I put straps on. I love it regardless. I was just wondering because I had to extend the back pieces like you said, but the bust part was too small or something. I don;t really know how to fix it. It is tight around me but the bust area is too large I think. How could I fix this?

Yeah, I’ve found that the lower the back, the harder it is to keep it up without straps. It you want to go strapless, I suggest keeping the back straight across.
I’m not really sure what you’re describing with the bust. You said it’s too small, but it’s too large at the same time? If you’re not “filling” into it, then I would decrease the contour when fitting the top bust piece with the lower pieces. In other words, make it less curvy and more straight. A tiny change to the contour will result in pretty dramatic results, so start with shaving off just a few millimeters until you get the right size for you. If that’s not your problem, you can try re-explaining it to me, and I’ll do my best to accommodate!
I apologize again for taking so long to respond! But I hope this can help you out with future projects.

Thank you so much for getting back to me. I do plan on creating another sometime soon. I love the pattern, I just need to tweek it to my measurements. That helps though. Thank you.

Cool! Great tips. They will definitely be useful. Thank you, so much, for responding. Oh wow! you were serious about it being pretty obvious which free pattern applies. WOW ! I already downloaded yours (like 3 times because I didn’t know how to find what I already downloaded silly me—I figured it out now). I already cut out your pattern from freezer paper. I was just trying to figure out what fabric to use. Thanks again for responding.
