Hiii! I was wondering what pattern you used for the pea coat you made a while back?
Nov 19, 2011, 09.36 PMby melonhead
Hi there! I actually I cut up a coat that I got at a thrift store that fit nice and I used that as my pattern for the coat :)
Aug 3, 2011, 05.35 AMby Joy Lomas
Yay, okay thanks heaps :D
Jul 13, 2011, 10.19 AMby Joy Lomas
Okay, I know it seems that I’m stalking you. . . but I’m really not :P So would you be able to help me here, do you have any idea how to do the lace part attached to this dress? http://www.etsy.com/listing/77021970/vintage-50s-ivory-tea-length-wedding?ref=sr_gallery_32&ga_search_submit&ga_search_query=1950s+gown&ga_order=price_desc&ga_page=11&ga_search_type=vintage&ga_facet=vintage Thanks if you can help, thanks if you can’t, you’re awesome xx
Jul 22, 2011, 02.03 AMby melonhead
Haha don’t worry, I don’t think you’re stalking me. What do you mean by do the lace part? The scalloped bodice or the skirt? Because the for the skirt you’d just cut it out exactly like the fabric underneath it. For the scallops it looks like you’d just cut each part of the bodice so that the scallops are at the top where you want them…. I hope that makes sense…I’m horrible when it comes to explaining things! Good luck with everything!!!! I’m sure it will turn out beautiful!!
Jul 26, 2011, 10.11 AMby Joy Lomas
Thanks I thought so; so there would be seams in the lace?
Jul 26, 2011, 10.25 AMby Joy Lomas
Wow that was vague. Okay, the lace that covers the chest :O I dont know how to do it :(
Jul 29, 2011, 06.31 PMby melonhead
Yes there would be seams. Although you could sew it at a smaller seam allowance so then the seams are not as noticeable. :)
Jun 17, 2011, 03.50 PMby leashbean
you are absolutely amazing with all you do!! i really don’t think you can do wrong in sewing. Plus all the wonderful photo’s make my heart warm :)
Jun 19, 2011, 01.25 PMby melonhead
Aw thank you for such kind words!!
Jun 11, 2011, 09.22 AMby Joy Lomas
So apparently you listen to sleeping at last? If so then. . . Woah. Dude, you’re awesome. Godbless my friend. xx
Jun 11, 2011, 02.28 PMby melonhead
:DDDDDDD You’re the first person I’ve ever met (online or in real life) who’s ever heard of sleeping at last!!! That’s so cool!!!!! Haha actually my sister got married a couple of weeks ago and she walked down the isle to one of their songs. :) It was really pretty. God bless you too!!
Jun 13, 2011, 08.56 AMby Joy Lomas
Yay! I so want to get married to one of their songs :O Which was it!! Was it from one of the yearbooks?
Next to me. . . Learning curve. . . .
I bet it was Dear true love. . . haha :)
Wow really? Welll They’re something special, I love their lyrics.
Dude have you heard of anchor and braille? You might like them listen to sing out. You wont regret it i promise. :)
Jun 13, 2011, 08.57 AMby Joy Lomas
Jun 13, 2011, 06.39 PMby melonhead
I know, I kind of want to steal her idea for if I ever get married…I still have a while to wait so I’m sure by the time if I ever find anyone she won’t mind. Haha. She walked down the isle to the song The Ash in Our Clothes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bx3c_K5m5AA it was really pretty. :)
I just looked them up and they’re really good!!! I really liked them! :D
Have you heard of Sigur Ros? I think you might like them. My favorite song of theirs is Hoppipolla.
Jun 14, 2011, 09.56 AMby Joy Lomas
Sigur Ros I’ve heard of them, if you say they are good then they must be!! Ash in our clothes, I have it but i’ll have to listen to that a little bit closer.
Dude, I’m pretty sure I’m going to get you to make me wedding dress, I’ll pay you anything, :P but i have to get engaged first. . . .haha.
Well I hope and pray that you’ll have a wonderful husband and you will have a MAGNIFICENT wedding day. . . and you’ll walk down the isle to sleeping at last haha :) It’s really the dream isnt it?
Jun 19, 2011, 01.33 PMby melonhead
Yes Sigur Ros is definitely worth a listen! :)
Haha I’ll make yours, if you make mine! ;) Awww thank you, I pray that for you too! I’m sure you’ll find the perfect guy that God has set out specifically for you! :)
Jun 22, 2011, 11.02 AMby Joy Lomas
yes, definatly, if I know one thing about God, he answers prayers. Haha, I really need to get back into sewing before i attempt anything drastic like a wedding dress!!! hopefully i’ll be good enough to make yours. .. Or attemp to, or even vaguly imagine it possible. Now i’m on winter holidays, I can give it a whirl. :) I’m looking forward to some more blogposts from you? :) Take care my friend :) xx
Jun 24, 2011, 12.44 AMby melonhead
Haha I know how you feel, I’m a bit rusty on my hand stitching…I should probably work on that, but I’ve just been too lazy.
I know, I’ve been pretty bad in posting lately. I’ve been at an art camp all week and have been pretty busy with that. I’m working on making my first film, so hopefully I can get that up this week. :)
You too, I hope you’re having a great summer!
Jun 5, 2011, 04.05 PMby petitmoutonbleu
I’m sooo jealous of your skills!!! besides you make so many different things, I can only really make dresses which I love… :) You’re gifted trully!!!!! congrats! You should make a tutorial and share with some of us that are still learning very slowly!!!!! Bug hug Have fun!
Jun 6, 2011, 02.11 PMby melonhead
Aw thank you!! I’ve never thought about that, I just might have to do that this summer. :) Although I’m just warning that I’m pretty horrible when it comes down to describing things. Haha. You’re projects are beautiful by the way!
May 4, 2011, 04.15 PMby postmodest

Oh wow. Thank you so much!
Apr 5, 2011, 01.35 PMby ielle palmer
You have so much imagination in a world that seems to be slipping into a creativity coma. Please keep it up, the outfits and pictures are wonderful. It’s nice to know that there are a few teens left whose parents didn’t use the TV to babysit them. It gives me hope for when i have my own children :) Keep up the great work!
Apr 6, 2011, 01.45 PMby melonhead
Aw thank you!! That’s really kind of you. :) Oh believe me I still watch TV quite a bit…just ask my mom. Haha. But that’s usually when I’m really bored or it’s too cooled to go do something outside. I’m sure your kids are going to turn out lovely! :)

Jan 7, 2011, 11.37 AMby Joy Lomas
May I make an inquiry as to what camera you use? :)
Jan 8, 2011, 07.41 PMby melonhead
Yeah I use a Sony Cybershot, it’s just a point and shoot, but I like it. :) I’m saving up for a DSLR though…Hopefully I’ll get there before I’m 80. haha.
Jan 10, 2011, 01.32 AMby Joy Lomas
Yeah you should get a Canon EOS 1000D and just get lenses for it haha. It’s way cheaper. But the camera you use is so good haha. :)
Jan 10, 2011, 08.49 PMby melonhead
I’ll have to check it out. :) I’ve actually been looking into the Nikon D7000. A friend of mine has one and he let me try it out and I really liked it.
Jan 11, 2011, 04.19 AMby Joy Lomas
ooooohhhh, is it really expensive? :s
Jan 12, 2011, 09.38 PMby melonhead
It’s about 1,200 just for the body, but I really like it and I don’t mine splurging a little since I’m thinking of doing photography as a side job. :)
Jan 12, 2011, 11.31 PMby Joy Lomas
Of course! Well It’s not that expensve, and your good at photography too. . . People get high class cameras and dont even know how to use them :s
I’m more of a film person myself, yesterday my friends mum gave me this old olympus with a billion lenses and it has a macro lense, i died. You can see like the details in the iris in the eye :O
We went down the street to look at the flood, I took some photos :)
Jan 19, 2011, 02.41 AMby melonhead
I know I don’t get why people get the $3,000 camera’s just to take photos of their family at holidays?! Make’s no sense. Oh cool!! I’ve never played around much with film, but lately I’ve been really interested in it. I love the way that film captures light. :)
Jan 19, 2011, 07.30 AMby Joy Lomas
YES! I cant wait to get it developed!! but on a more serious note. Agreed, and most of the photos they take just look like they were taken with a point and shoot :( So yeah. But no I think you should definatly get into photography and get a good camera :) :D
Jan 6, 2011, 02.03 AMby Joy Lomas

Hi! i was wondering if you’d mind sharing the pattern for your sailor dress with me. It’s absolutely beautiful, and i’m trying to start a new project using something that would really give me incentive to keep working on it. you’re a very good seamstress and designer, and i really hope you can achieve your dream of being a fashion designer (as the box on the right-hand side tells me). anyway, even if you’d prefer to keep the pattern to yourself (which would be perfectly alright by me), i just thought i’d let you know that i’m a teenage sewer (not yet good enough to be a seamstress), and i find your pieces to be really inspiring, knowing that someone in my own age range could create such beautiful pieces (and photographs). Thanks!
Nov 10, 2010, 02.02 PMby melonhead
Hi threadbear! Aw thank you that’s really nice of you. I’d absolutely love to share it with you, but the only problem is I don’t think I kept the pattern. :( A lot of it was just free hand. It’s basically just a gathered dress with a waist band, a yoke around the neck and trimming at the bottom. I don’t know if that helped, but if you have anymore questions I’d be glad to answer. I’m so sorry I wish I still had the pattern for you. It’s so great meeting another teenager that sews! I wish you all the best luck on all your projects! :)

I knit a lot of things. Right now I’m working on a sorta fair isle sweater from the book Made in Brooklyn, awesome book you should look at the stuff they have in there! I mostly knit stuff like socks and scarves. Where I can use bright cool colors and not have to buy a whole lot of yarn!
