Wow! So brilliant with the new – vintage machine.!my mom has an old kenmore here. I’m going to fix the zip on a leather jacket. It totally can do it. We hav an older model that’s for shoes. It was a thrift score. I’m going to have it re wired as I want to make slippers. Grandpa was a shoe maker many moons ago..,

I totally could do slippers! We have three now & it’s just wicket!

Oh wow! I love the older ones and that’s all I sew with. Even though I have about ten now I still use the Jones ones mum got me, it’s a fabulous charity shop find as are all my machines.I love the fact these machines where built to last and can basically sew through just about anything.I wrecked that many mordern machines as they’re rubbish lol and I do tend to sew fast!! A leftover trait from my factory sewing days!! the faster sewers got more money lol.
I’m going to photograph them all once my sewing room gets started? Its been a long slow process. My living room is nearly finished then the rest of downstairs and my outside and then!! My sewing room .I can’t wait. my machines plus stash and magazines are everywhere at the moment and the thought of all of it in one room fills with me glee lol. Make some slippers and post them .what a skill to have xx

I agree you guys, you can’t beat the dependability of the old makes and models, esp. from a few decades ago; my mum even said her antique treadle Singer from the turn of the century, was the most reliable shes ever had to date and it never broke down; and had no problems like my clunky machine often does lolz. Nevermind its been good for learning on haha. I’ve always wanted a 70s bernina. =)

Oh I would love a bernina as well. I have 2 singers, 2 necchis, 2 pfaffs, a Jones a new home a cub. A new overlocker plus a couple more I can’t remember the makes lol, so it’s more than ten lol x

thats excellent Mary, an impressive and very handy collection lolz! i used to write off the idea of me getting an overlocker, but i now realize how great they are after using a friends’ semi-industrial serger lol.

Omg floralgirl. That’s what I got. I got a necci Julia supernova but alas no accessories, the other one is a new home and has everything with it. I have an embroidery machine so I wasn’t to unhappy and maybe one day I can get the cans for it? The thing is I can’t seem to Get the automatic sewing to switch of? And the instructions are no help. Let me know if you know how to please . I absolutely love vintage sewing machines and this makes ten I think. Taking these two home on Saturday was wonderful for me. I couldn’t stop smiling x

that’s amazing!!i Mine is supernova automatica. Hopefully will have a chance to play with it over the next few days. And yes I love vintage machines too-another proud buy is a singer 201 treadle made in Scotland for $45. It sews through anything. -I bought a 60s elna special for $20 many years ago and it wouldnt switch off and it turned out to be a foot pedal problem .

Had a go on the Necchi last night ,mage a few hankies using the rolled hem foot. Sews perfectly-tried it on a thick wad of cotton too. Reckon you’re right- it would respond well to a service. I have several machines too and my mum is a bit shocked I’ve bought another!! But when it come times to scale down this will be a keeper!

Lol my mums the same!! She said to me the other day,I think you have enough machines now mary? Lol. I can’t help myself though. Its the first thing I ask When I’m looking around charity shops, they’re addictive. I said to mum I’m putting them on shelves in my (eventually finished ) sewing room, she replied mary!! They will pull the wall down with their weight lol x

      Hi Rita,
Well mums not 100% , she’s fed up being ill as it gets her down. My sister is unwell as well and is waiting on test results back. I’m hoping mums well enough for a weekend away at the end of Sept, just across the water to sunderland for 3 days. Our friend that sang in Spain shaun has opened up his own club so we would love to go. It all hangs on my sisters test results. we’re hoping no news is good news as it will be 3 weeks on wednesdsy since she had the full body scan, they found 4 lesions on her back at a previous scan.
The issue is burda style special plus’s just in the shops. I always have a look inside before I buy as normally they just take the patterns from various burdas I already have. This time though there was a couple of different ones and one colour block dress made me buy it. The dress is lovely and I can see a few dresses and tops being made. I have a huge stash of scraps needing used up as well. yes Rita I would love that issue, I can get you this one if you like and we can swop lol. I will email you when I get home from work.I hope you and your family are all well.
I have gained that much weight with stress, I tend to comfort eat. I am now cutting down like mad for my holiday lol , I’m looking for an exercise bike as it’s to wet to jog outside. My friend offered me one last year but I didn’t need one then, hindsights a wonderful thing lol x

Haha… how did that happen Mary? Do they have a different cover? I saw the July issue last week at the magazine stand & I couldn’t decide if I should buy it or not! Nice garments, but very easy patterns that I could create them myself. But I think I am going to buy it, since I haven’t purchased any of the issues this year & I miss it :))) I need some eye candy :)

Hi, well I bought 3 patrones while I was on holiday and I spotted the burda on my last day. It didn’t have a date on it? So I assumed it was a burda special one. I have my burda ordered from my Newsagent so even though I realised I had already bought The issue I still had to pay for it lol. Ill photograph them side by side when I post OK.the insides aren’t identical neither? Different photos for the same outfit x

Lucky you Mary, I bought my June issue yesterday..! I receive my magazines so late that I have always found it another place/city while travelling, so now I decided to buy the magazine instead. My mother in law is also sewing so therefore she got the double issue I had from the other months, so she’s very happy :)

Hi Ellen, I didn’t realise when I bought the burda in Spain that it was julys issue? I thought it was one of their specials lol. I also bought 3 patronez magazines which was heaven for me. There’s such a lot I want to make from them.I used to have to take a day of work once a month to go into Belfast and buy my burda. Then I asked. My Newsagent in my town if they.could order it so now I get my magazines kept for me which is great. I’m loving all your new projects, your seeing skills ate fantastic x

Hi Rita, I’m going to Spain in June with Kelsey, mum didn’t want to go! I was booking us an all inclusive break in October but she said no!! She said the journey etc was to much for her now and she dosnt enjoy it any more.she hates the travelling whereas I love it. I was so upset as we have had so much fun the last 15 years and now It’s ended. MuM said we can go for weekends away to England as It’s a short flights for us. I’m hoping she changes her mind in the future when she’s 100% again but I have to abide by her wishes. Mum has copd rheumatoid arthritis asthma and an irregular heart beat so she has a lot to contend with. Kelsey said she’d go with me for a few days for my birthday So I’m really looking forward to that.(they go to San Francisco in Sept for a family holiday) As long as mums fine Rita we’ll be grand. I hope you are all well x

I saw Jersey waffle fabric advertised on eBay so i ordered some out of curiosity!! Its.gorgeous Ellen so I bought more. It’s got a crinkled effect to it and will make great beach dresses. The problem is I had already bought my dress fabric?? Lol. I can.t help myself. My sister and my niece called round earlier and where loving my fabrics. I have made my niece a top and shorts for bed as she finds it hard to get pyjamas as she’s tall and thin.well they’re that cute on her she said she would wear them out. Hi Mary! Have you shopped with EOS, Emma One Sock, yet? Her goods are amazing and affordable. I use her all the time. Most of the garments in my studio are made from her fabric. Just trying to give you a little help with that fabric addiction!

Hi Mary ! Thanks for asking. I am improving !! :-) Finally !!! My chiropractor has been doing A.R.T. on my head/neck, and I feel so much better. Now I just need to get the anxiety that developed under control, figure out how to fix the head pains/balance when I bend over or change position, and the numbness in my hand. We were away for ten days, as we decided to go cruizing in the motor home, and had wonderful relaxing time doing nothing!!! We spent the last three days parked in my girlfriends driveway; it was awesome to see her again. I found buckles, finally, that will work for the jacket I have been planning since January. The ones I first purchased, were too small. I had no idea when I started the plan, that it would be so difficult to find the ‘hardware’ I needed. So I purchased 40 buckles while I was at the store; I need 8 for the jacket. They were only $0.49 each, compared to $5.00 anywhere I could find them online plus shipping costs. This store was so awesome, the basement was all notions and awesome prices on most things. Plus there were a few clear out sales of things I could use ‘at some time’. It was so hard to keep within the budget I had set for myself, but I did. I can’t wait to see all your new projects as they are always inspiring !!! Try not to work to hard, and get sick from exhaustion before your vacation!!!! HUGS

Thanks Rita, glad to hear you’re getting better. That store sounds fantastic and I would love it. I have been known to find a fabric or haberdashery shop and go in when it’s light and go back out when it’s dark lol.
Mum hasn’t been well at all since just before Xmas. She has had COPD since she was 12 and refuses to go on oxygen as she said ‘she has coped with it for 60years’.mum also has bad arthritis in her hands and feet. Well think she got a virus at Xmas and it’s travelling round her body attacking the weak spots like her lungs hands etc?? She now thinks she has frozen shoulder as she can’t move her arms up?? It’s scary for us to witness Rita as although moms 72 she was incredible and so fit. People thought she was my sister on holiday. I got myself the extra job to pay for our holiday and also get some work done on my house. It’s hard going but I love the money lol. It’s lovely being able to do things and buy things for mum. She has been there for us all our lives and we’d be Lost without her. I told her she can just lie at the pool and drink baileys till the cows come home lol. We/re all inclusive. Mums of to the docs today so hopefully they can at least give her something. X

Hi Mary, I wanted to ask you a question about the kimono you made for you daughter way back in 2011 (Lace Kimono 07/2011 #124)- I want to make a kimono dressing gown for myself. I can’t see from the pictures if there’s a decent wrap-over at the front of the kimono. I don’t want to be accidentally flashing myself – my sons would be mortified! Thanks, Penny

Hi penny mac, yes there is enough coverage. Kelsey took this on holiday and wore it with shorts, very Boho!! She said!! Over her bikini and in the apartment as a housecoat. It’s a great pattern. I bought 5 metres of A lovely scuba fabric and they sent me 6!! Delighted!! An extra metre for a present . I’m making one for myself plus a top culottes?? And maybe the bombshell bathing suit. I can’t wait to see yours. Xx
