Hello! I just made an attemp of making your pants… but they end up too short!!! I don’t understand how you make them longer! I foldes as it said but all the lengths turned put the same.. pleaseee could you take a picture on how you fold the fabric for the grown up dhoti pants!!!!! pleaseeeee!!!!! I would really appreciate it

I have made grown up dhoti patterns (for me) the same way and magdamagda had also tried this and made one for self and has no issues.
Please recheck the inner seam length you require, once you fold the cloth till it becomes triangle, then first measure the ankle opening as required and then from that point measure the inner seam length and mark upwards.
Inner seam length + height of waistband part should be equal to your full length
hope this helps. please recheck the tutorial.
thanks

Hi! I’m came across your profile and love your profile and I just have to say, it’s so great to see someone posting traditional Indian clothes on BurdaStyle, because after all, how can you exclude the fashion and design of one of the most culturally rich countries in the world.
I had a question for you – I am a total novice and want to get started with sewing and creating clothes – no skills whatsoever. I assume that to begin, I’ll have to buy a sewing machine.
I was wondering if you could suggest a sewing machine that is available commonly in India for beginners. I live in Bangalore (recently moved here from Chennai/US) and am quite lost :-/
Just thought I’d throw it out there!

Usha fashion maker will work fine for a beginner and the needles and other spare parts will be readily available.
I own a singer and have loads of trouble getting needle and spare parts, which i have to request my friends travelling from abroad to get it for me.
Thanks for the compliments. I am glad more people who are interested in Indian Clothing are on Burdastyle and in fact world over.

Thank god. Zipper (invisible) is done perfectly atleast to my eyes in the burdastyle book project dress. …. Need to attach lining to main fabric…
This was the link i used (i actually tried a lot of other tutorials and have 15 sets of test zipper attached scraps!) ; but this was the one which worked for me as didn’t have an invisible zipper foot and used my normal zipper foot. http://buzzybeesworld.blogspot.com/2010/03/tricks-of-trade-inserting-invisible-zip.html

Sample Test Fit on Altered pattern (Classic princess seam) completed. Still feel i may have to add 1/4 inch on side front pieces. Lets see. and i realised i am VERY POOR in sewing invisible zipper. my invisible zipper is so VISIBLE ha ha… i am trying 1 technique a day by googling ‘invisible zipper’ . In case any one of you have a tried and tested method, which is not bound to fail please please please let me know…
This is more important as i am able to get 20" zipper in black or white color only and the colored ones are max 16". so if i am going to use white one on my sandal shade fabric, i better make it INVISIBLE… So PLEASE HELP !!!!

You can buy lycra, knit fabrics from Thakurdas Choithram , near LIC, anna salai; even rare fabrics like velvet is also available there. sorry for late reply, i haven’t been online much for the past week or so!
