After a too long holiday hiatus the Bemidji Burda Style Sewing club is back in swing! For February we will be meeting on the 26th at 6:00PM. We will be making Moccasin type slipper based on this tutorial http://paleoplanet69529.yuku.com/topic/14813/t/Moccasins-101-How-to-make-one-piece-moccasins.html. The “kicker” is instead of using leather we will be making them from recycled articles of clothing ie.) old sweater, coat, denim, etc. Although anyone wanting to use leather is free to do so as well. Email me at makemenddo@gmail.com if you have any questions, need directions, etc. Hope to see you there!

Hi littlevigilante! Thanks for commenting on my Laura dress, I’m glad you like the lining. It took me ages to find the perfect fabric but I’m glad I was patient :)

Hello All! May 15th kicked off the first Bemidji, MN sewing club meeting! I was unsure about how it well it would turn out but I was relieved when a good number of sewers showed up excited and eager with sewing machines in hand. Our sewing collective, if you will, is called “Make.Mend.Do”. A turn of phrase from the WWII Make Do and Mend motto. Our first meet we made a simple shrug from an old t-shirt and ribbon based on the tutorial from Cut Out and Keeps EveNl. (www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/tshirt_shrug) Also, we made a simple circle skirt from this simple tutorial from Crafster.org (www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=12439.0). All in all it turned out pretty well. There was some tinkering with borrowed machines and some a couple mishaps with measuring and math on a couple skirts but almost all went home with completed projects. One woman went home with matching circle skirts for her and her daughter made from a bed sheet. Before they left we got to see the younger model her skirt and it was absolutely darling! Next time I hope to have some pictures to post. I passed out a simple questionnaire to get a sense of what the group was interested in. Most people were interested in making their own dress forms, making their own lingerie and under clothing, learing how to alter/mend/recycle/repurpose/make patterns and construct clothing for men/women/child/home. Our next meeting is scheduled for June 26th at 6:00PM and goes until you want to leave. We will be making our own duct tape dress forms! If you are interested in coming and need more info please contact me. Also, you may email me at makemenddo@gmail.com. Happy Sewing!!!!!!

Hi Littlevigilante! Love that name! haha. Thanks for the happy birthday. :) Happy Birthday to you too! Yes, 8 yards of dreaming. Love it when that happens. Actually, my sister saw the top and now wants one. Oh dear. Now only 6 1/2 yards for dreaming.
