Just wanted to say how much I love your designs. I love the mix of classic, retro and edgy. I find myself drawn to exactly the same silhouettes most of the time and love to mix them together on occasion. I find myself being inspired by your entire collection here. I’m only just starting to make clothes (I made quilts up till now) and find this site and people like you to be a huge relief, inspiration and ego boost all in one!

Hi there, thanks for the comment on the plaid pants. About the rivets, we conveniently have a leather hole punch, which worked perfectly to make holes in the right spot. Insert the rivet and then there were two pieces of metal, one for the bottom and one for the top to hammer at. lol, I found the rivets a lot more fun to insert than adding belt loops, those are tedious.

Lauriana, Just want to add to the long list of thank you’s and ooh-and aahs over your creations. I really like your comments and contributions to this space. They are so useful, insightful, often timely, and always inspiring. I told this to JJ too, but I liken the two of you to superheroes who see through patterns and potential pitfalls that most of us, mere mortal seamstresses can not. All you need are spandex costumes and how poetic is it that you can design and sew one up! Just kidding but seriously, thanks.

Thanks for your comment on my JJ blouse! I really appreciate your advices! The suggestion with the bias tape sounds really good, but I’m not very experienced in working with it, although I figured out how to make it: I intended to cover the seams inside the blouse with bias, but satin bias tape is so fractious, it is nearly impossible to iron the folds (maybe basting it before will help) and again everything very slippery! So in the end I didn’t do it because of too much work (for only some neat looking inner seams ;)) And yes upper back truly needs more room, but I’m not so sure if I could fix it. I didn’t make the seams allowances too short, so I could give a little more room, but the fabric got hurt, the back seams are intact, but the yarn of the fabric got edged together (I’m sorry I’m not able to articulate better in english!). We’ll see. I just need a little pause from this blouse and this fabric and than I’ll try to fix it.

Hello Lauriana, my you are very popular!! I hope there is enough room on your homepage to squeeze one more comment in!! i was just wondering how you went on your search for pattern making software? I just checked the thread again and it looks like you received alot of great info. And judging by your creations you will have a ball going digital! Your designs are quite spectacular. Also just love the photo of your boyfriend…reminds me of the good old days when my husband played in a hardcore band..Ahhh good memories. Now it’s our 12 year old son who rocks in this house!!!

    Hey Lauriana,

Thanks for your message! I think the project with lattice smocking on savyseams is great. Yea I know Rotterdam but mainly Defthaven. Do you know this venue called Worm? It is not far from de Fabrik They have a filmlab which I use 2 or 3 times a year. Last January, I showed a short film for the Rotterdam International Film Festival. If you are in Rotterdam, go to visit Worm (they have a music shop as and cool bar as well). This place is for me the best place in the world and it is in Rotterdam Tot ziens!

Hi. I liked your comment on pinkhibiscus’s dress, about pressing the seam allowances to make it look more neat. I think most of the people don’t give their hones opinion anymore, so you are I appreciated you for not being “most of the people”. Just by getting “this dress is nice”, “it looks great”,… comments, one will never evolve in his sewing skills. So, keep having great comments. :)

Hi, just curious, the book with the dolmans, is that the one from Victoria & Albert museum? If it is, that’s the one I was looking in too. I hope you make a dolman, they’re lovely garments and should get more attention.
