Thanks for your favouritism !! I too sew on a very old machine ( 1969 Jones ) It is solid made and is capable of really tough work. It has been used almost daily since I was 19 — and I am fast approaching 60 !! I have even made boat awnings on it and repaired tents in the past. It is ideal for working with heavyweight garment making such as coat making or repairing jeans. Yet is capable of machine embroidery, free machining etc – very versatile. I have often looked at replacing it with a super-duper computerised model but always change my mind. I am sure that you will find the older machine ideal and more robust , especially for the coat making..

congrats on the coat adventure. :)

Hey wow, a haunted sewing machine!! I actually had a sewing machine do that to me, it was an old Singer I got at a secondhand store, and because it was old the pedal-button was quite sticky and stuck in the down position as soon as I pressed! Its okay now though. Maybe you can get a replacement pedal for yours? Anyway, for new machines, check out the reviews on this site, it’s really helpful for oicking out what model you may need from all the myriad choices! http://sewing.patternreview.com/SewingMachine/Reviews

Hi Laura, thanks for tipping me off about your newest creation- I came over to your wall to check out your new machine! Even if it does just a simple zigzag, that is still good for making stretchier seams for knits…. you do a fairly narrow zigzag. If you do some experiments on some scraps you can get a feel for what works best. There were a number of books written in the 70s-80s about using sewing machines for knits, you know before sergers were available- if you have thrift stores or secondhand stores where you live keep your eye out for them, they are usually really cheap :o)

Hi, thanks for such a nice comment on my Minna. The straps were premade – at the sewing megastore here it has a craft section, and it was in the aisle with all types of ribbons on reels, and this was some sort of rope on a reel. i wasn’t sure if it was the ‘correct’ thing to use, but it definitely worked out :) you can sew right through the middle with ease. i recommend basting it on first though!hope your broken foot’s on your non-sewing-presser foot so you can use the time indoors to create :)

Ciao :) Thank you for the wall message. I’m glad you like my recycled skirt. Yes, your orange Michelle skirt is very nice and an inspiration for me in choice of colours. Hope I can make this pattern one day, I like the A-line of this skirt. Enjoy sewing and wish you could always find some time to keep on creating. :)

Hi! My ornamental dress was a modified pattern of the dutch “knipmode” (july 2007). It was very easy to sew – if you want to, I can send you a scan of the technical drawing. Have a nice weekend! :)

Thank you for the kind words about my wedding and bridesmaid’s dresses from the 1980’s. I’m glad you remember what it was like, so you understand:) I just cracked up when you described yourself as a being a big meringue in those days! Wasn’t that the truth!

Thanks for your insightful comment on my yellow top! I hope you are able to get a copy of the March issue. Try ebay. Otherwise, I would be happy to trace a particular size for you (on my usual white giftwrap tissue paper). Cheers!

Thank you! I’m so glad you like them :-)! I found how-to’s about grading patterns here, I was very glad to find them, I have a bunch of my grandmum’s patterns that I like, but they’re all tooo big for me… now I might be able to use them anyway, I like Burdastyle :-). Haha, saw your status, I just organised my stash, such a relief… ;-)

Hey thanks for the nice comment! I used the bodice sloper pattern JJ uploaded then I just folded the piece in half (so that it was symmetrical) and cut the neck line how I wanted it. I finished the neckline and arm holes with binding. Good luck!

Thanks for the comments about my dress and the fabric. I run a Giesse Scampoli outlet in the UK and my friend Danny runs the outlet in Ancona. I’m not sure this is the closest to you but we do all get the same sort of quality fabrics so you will find something you love at any of the Giesse shops in Italy :-)
