Lookin goooooood kelepso! How do you feel the response is for your new line? The blog looks great, I’m a follower :)
Sep 3, 2011, 06.28 PMby kelepso
Thanks! I was wondering who my new follower was. The response has been great. I’ve made 3 sales on Etsy, since I opened my shop at the end of July. And the clients are buying the high end tanks rather than the economical ones. So that’s great. Wish me luck!
Sep 12, 2011, 06.55 PMby cantare
You don’t need luck, Kelepso. You have your biz plan in order and are open to learning and being flexible to the market, I can tell. You’re delivering what your niche needs and THAT is valuable as a biz owner! So…best wishes for fun!

i just wanted to say a huge congratulations on getting to the semi finals! i know that it’s bittersweet, but wow.
i think it’s fantastic you’re going to focus on menswear. there just isn’t enough of it out there— and who knows, next year, if you decide to tromp in with your menswear line, that could really be the ticket. they NEED that; and why not just translate what you’d make for a man onto a woman’s form? i would wear your bernina comp jacket as a belted mini dress in a hot minute!
Jul 17, 2011, 04.16 PMby kelepso
Thank you Oona! Sweet and kind words. I’m definitely going to translate my men’s aesthetic to women’s wear. I believe PR should do a season of men’s wear only or at least incorporate it in more. Unfortunately, when I went to the audition, they only allow you to bring (1) men’s wear garment :-) Many thanks again!!!

Thinking of you today-kinda missing you on the scene here.
Jul 10, 2011, 06.38 PMby kelepso
Coincidently, I was just getting ready to post a pic of a garment I just completed for my sister.
The reason I’ve been quite is because I’m working on a business plan to launch a men’s clothing line on Etsy. I’ve decided to focus on men’s wear exclusively. So unfortunately, I haven’t been doing much sewing; just lots of thinking and planning. I want to make sure my plan is concise before I just post photos and sell.
Thanks for thinking of me. Hope all is well.

do you have photos from your first show?

Better yet, I have a video. Link: http://kelepsodesignstudio.blogspot.com/2011/06/10th-annual-memorial-fashion-show.html
There are no new designs. The same garments I made to audition for Project Runway were showcased.

Hello again :) I just wanted to ask what you thought about Kate’s wedding dress.I thought it was stunning the lace just bought the dress to life ,How do you think it compared with your design?
May 8, 2011, 09.35 PMby kelepso
I thought Kate looked beautiful. Nonetheless, I think the dress was very “safe”. I just wish she wore something a little different. Regardless, it was classic and very “princess-like”.

its a magnetic guide you place on your scissors . You dont have to trace around patterns/blocks to add the seam allowance, it keeps the scissors the required distance away from the pattern edge you can see it on my site. www.seamallowanceguide.com

I saw and read the information on your website. It looks really cool. I just sent you a message. Please check your inbox. It will have my mailing address. Thanks again.

Hello! I checked out your video, looks good! I especially like the short white dress with the dark coat…mmm!! My kind of outfit. Your fit and construction are very good! I can see an improvement from your first projects. I think the judges are more impressed with improvement than, “Look at how good I was from the beginning, so I’ll have no competition.” Your women’s wear is sexy and flattering. I find too many female designs accentuate the less flattering to the body: Skirts that are just too short, strapless dresses that are clingy not fitted, using cheap material, and etc—and of course I fall to these faults too often and am breaking away! So, thank you for being tasteful. Best of luck for PR my friend!!

Thanks cantare! I’ll be posting the pics on BS soon.

So for auditioning for project runway, is that a ‘good luck’ or a ‘break a leg’ kind of thing?
Mar 27, 2011, 04.23 AMby dpiddy
Why thank you :)
Mar 25, 2011, 04.33 PMby aakmensah
I can’t believe she wants you to make a new garment out of it! I know what you mean, unpicking stitches takes patience to a whole new level! I once made a bag and i was so exited about finishing it that i sewed it up with the wright sides facing out . I was really angry with myself i think i begun unpicking but frustration got the better of me and i gave up. It’s funny how one persons nightmare is another persons dream,For example my mum finds detangling masses of mixed wool fun and therapeutic while that’s a form of torture for me.My point-One of your family members may secretly enjoy unpicking sticks as strange as it may seem :)

Grandmas dress The fabric is stunning,I’m not a big fan of blue but this is just beautiful! I have some kente cloth at home it’s more orange/yellow/green but I can’t decide what to make with it yet. I was just wondering does the dress have a kick pleat? I bet your grandma thought it was just right My grandma had an African dress in a similar style to your grandmas but it was in russet red/burnt orange color,i think it had a wrap that she wore with it ,not dissimilar to one of your designs i admire your efforts to keep going with it even when it didn’t fit quite right Inspiring!
Mar 25, 2011, 12.06 AMby kelepso
Hey Aakmensah, There is no kick pleat, just a small split. After all the hard work I put into the dress, even after the adjustments, my grandma does NOT like it. She wants me to take the bodice apart and create a different garment. I am disappointed and I’m not in the mood of taking the dress apart. Once I complete a garment, I’m finished. I don’t like going back and forth.
Feb 27, 2011, 02.25 PMby aakmensah
I read your previous status about your grandma’s african outfit sounds interesting ,did it turn out as planned?
Feb 27, 2011, 08.59 PMby kelepso
Initially no, because it was to tight around the waist. So I had to put in extra strip of fabric below the sleeves to extend the waist line. I wanted to take a photo of her today after church, but time will not permit. I will just post the pictures of the garment lying on the bed. Thanks for asking!
Feb 12, 2011, 04.43 PMby aakmensah
I agree, she will look gorgeous! The royal designers have done a great job dressing her so far so i’m sure she will look amazing seen as though it’s estimated that £50 million will be spent on the wedding.Anyway i better stop jibbering on and i’d just like to say i saw the obi-cut-nobi belt and it is just stunning i especially like the choice of beads i think it really brings out the logos symmetric design.
Feb 12, 2011, 05.28 PMby kelepso
Wow! 50 million pounds? That’s a lot of money. Didn’t realize they were spending so much, even though there was talking about being conservative during economic difficulties. Lol! Thanks for the comment re: the belt.
Feb 7, 2011, 09.08 PMby aakmensah
I didn’t get a chance to comment on your design for kate’s wedding dress but it was so clever how you incorporated big ben into the design. The dress is being created in Buckingham palace at the moment but they are keeping the designer secret, many designers have made predictions on what the dress will look like, people say she will be wearing a laced long sleeve “safe” dress.I’ll be watching to see if the dress looks as good as your design. Whatever the dress looks like it is sure to become a new trend in bridle wear for years to come.
Feb 8, 2011, 04.55 AMby kelepso
Thank you Aakmensah. I am so looking forward to the wedding. I know it’s going to be a “Royal Affair”. I just love the pagentry & the pomp and circumstance. Whatever she wears, I’m quite sure she will look gorgeous. :-)

ooo thnak u… i am totaly obssesed with sarouel men pants…totaly… if u have some suggestion , tell me…thank u so much :P
Feb 1, 2011, 02.30 PMby kelepso
I made my harem (sarouel) pants without a pattern. Simply measure your waist, then determine how many pleats you’d like to add at the front (and back). Based on the number and width of pleats, multiple the width of the pleats X 2; Then multiple that number X’s the number of pleats. I’d also suggest you use elastic in the waistband. I didn’t, but I would next time. I hope this helps. Good luck!

Just visited your blog and must say that obi belt in cut work is simply fabulous! I am making something employing cutwork and I hope it turns OK! Before I lose myself chattering away – THANK you on the lovely comment you left on my carnation necklace!!!
Jan 30, 2011, 12.02 AMby kelepso
Thank you for the compliment. The cutwork experimentation was a lot of fun. I’d love to see your project after you’re done. BTW – I saved your carnation tutorial to my studio. I am going to attempt to make it one day. Thanks for the tutorial.

I’ve had just one pulled out and it was one of the worst experience I’ve ever been through. I hope your’e feeling better, :)
Jan 29, 2011, 04.09 PMby kelepso
Hi Ami Taf, I am recuperating very well. The pain killers and antibiotics are doing their job very well. I haven’t felt any discomfort since the surgery. Fortunately, I was sedated during the surgery, so I don’t remember anything at all.

I was going to say You’re Welcome and suggest peppermint tea! But somehow I hit the “inappropriate” button instead cause I thought it was the reply button. :( I should probably get more sleep.
I like your cut work, btw. That was very good for a first try, better than mine!
Jan 30, 2011, 01.24 AMby kelepso
Thanks for the tip re: the peppermint tea. Is your cutwork project posted in your BS studio? I’d like to see it.
Jan 30, 2011, 02.03 AMby ladykatza
No, the cut-work was done on a scrap and it was so bad I threw it away! I do really like yours though. Maybe I’ll try again soon and share. ;)

Jan 25, 2011, 05.46 PMby kelepso
I absolutely love it. It’s a beauty and I’m so blessed and fortunate to have won it. I just experimented with cutwork, but I can’t wait to put it to full use. It’s so pretty and very quiet too. Thanks for asking :-)
Jan 3, 2011, 08.27 AMby Ami Taf
Would love to see the results of your fabric painting. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do… among the other million of things I’ve been wanting to do, lol… Pictures please, when you’re done and a bunch of ‘how to’s’ too if you don’t mind sharing. Thanks, :)

I will certainly post pics once I’m finish. I am making a handbag to complement my first dress for the Project Runway Challenge. I can’t wait for the photo shoot.
