Hi , I hope all your family and friends are safe in NZ. What a terrible tragedy.
Feb 24, 2011, 01.25 AMby kaitui-kiwi
Thank you for your thoughts, luckily all mine & my husbands family are safe in the North Island but my Mum did feel the quake in Wellington. It’s all very sad but what an amazing response from all over NZ and Australia and the rest of the world to lend a hand and ease the pain.

Does a super tidy sewing room mean you’ve re-organized? I actually have completely redone my sewing space since we shared photos last year – I now have a dedicated sewing workshop in my former bedroom. Unbelievale, the difference it has made!
Feb 15, 2011, 03.53 AMby kaitui-kiwi
It looks mostly the same, there is just more of it now ;) I just had to put away all the wedding dress stuff and my machines were in desperate need of a clean. I was trying to work out how to get some sort of ladder in there, like what you have, so I can hang a few of my favourite fabrics up.
I’d love to see what you’ve done to your space.
We might be moving in 6 months time so I’m crossing my fingers for a bigger room ;)

Hi Melissa, I have checked out your website and your dress looks Awesome! I really like the neckline. My goodness you are very organised. I can only dream about organising my projects the way you do.

Thanks, that’s great news! I was so excited about subscribing, and suddenly saw the sizes… but I’m happy again :-)

Hi Melissa, I’ve read your posts about Patrones mag, and became very excited about it. I just have one questions – when they say “talia 40-44-48” do they mean sizes 40-44-48? It seems quite odd there is no size 38 – which is the most standard I think…
Jul 8, 2010, 01.10 PMby kaitui-kiwi
Hi libby, your are correct, talia 40-44-48 are the sizes. I find my Patrones size is one larger that my Burda size so you should find that Burda 38 is Patrones 40. I am a 40/42 so I usually cut inbetween the 38-44 and take it in :) I have found the fit quite good so far even though I haven’t made many things yet but I am working on it :)

May 13, 2010, 04.39 AMby gillthecat
yes were all going stress central although to be fair i havnt done much,, this weekend must get semi sorted,, whts your view on new march issue,,and them putting up indevidual patterns very enterprising,, be nice to see people making the patterns get some ideas, gotta go see you next month, we doing made by me meet ?
May 13, 2010, 05.10 AMby kaitui-kiwi
made by me meet is scheduled for July, we are also doing secret gifts, I posted it all up on the event page :) Should be loads of fun!
Yeah I guess I don’t really care about them posting the mag patterns, obviously because I subscribe but I think it’s good for those who can’t or don’t want to get a subscription. I don’t think the ones they have chosen and necessarily the “best” patterns but I guess that’s all personal preference and the pricing! Geeze, you buy 2 or 3 from on issue and you may as well have bought the whole magazine, but yeah… :) Ah, March is ok, I love the cover dress, and maybe one or two others but it’s not amazing, June preview looks good. To be honest, if I hadn’t been able to subscribe direct at such a good price I probably wouldn’t have renewed my sub.

Hi, the ning sight is down for maintenance – not knowing how long it will be down for can you shoot me the address for tomorrow’s meet. It’s really literally round the corner… but just need the address to be certain. Thanks, see you then!

Hi, can you tell me what size your JJ is? It fits so well and you look similar to my size – I was thinking I should cut a 38 or 40. Your thoughts? I want to get this prepared for next weekend.

No power?! I hope that problem is resolved soon… I guess you could always start practicing your hand sewing techniques…

Hi Mel. It was really lovely to meet you today. Thanks to all of you for making me feel so welcome, especially when i was so frazzeled from the drive! Gila
Mar 14, 2010, 01.29 AMby kaitui-kiwi
No worries Gila, it was great to meet you too and I’m glad you finally made it, now you know where we are for next time :) You pretty much met all our regulars minus one and that’s basically our usual meet style, we pretty much do our own projects, bring a bit of show and tell all while ohhing and ahhing over the latest book/magazine purchases, we’ve found it works better for us than a structured “we’re going to make this today” kind of thing but we do those occasionally as well. We are hoping to do a fabric/thrift store kind of drive one month soon but apart from that keep your eye on the ning page and I’ll email you an invite when I post for Aprils meet :)
hope to see you again soon
Mel

Guess what, we went shopping today. About an hour after we got back my delivery of material came, a new chair for Dave my husband and a giant goodie bag of all different things that we bought while we were over in England. We have spent all afternoon setting the chair up, it is one of those massage ones and we are very pleased with it. So I have got to get down to it now and get cracking now I have got the material, I will just have to sort out what I think will be the right material for the patterns , so I will definitely be busy. Just looked out the window it has started snowing !!!!!!!!!

Hi Melissa. I live in Fremantle, and would love to join the perth Burda sewing club. I will have a look at the web site. Can you tell me when the next meet up is? That would be great :)- Gila

Hi, back from our visit to England. Had a great time but the time went by so quickly. We went to Birmingham and after visiting family etc, went to buy fabrics in Birmingham centre.
Our son and his wife took us and it was like walking into Aladdins cave, we all had a great time in this fabric warehouse . Glad to say I have bought a lot of lovely fabrics and had great fun picking them all out.
The next day we took all the fabric and some other things to a courier that is gong to bring them over to Bulgaria.
My husband Dave has kindly bought me two work tables and I have all my sewing things ready awaiting the delivery of the fabrics.
All the best…….Elaine

Thanks for the compliments on my yellow/denim dress! I think you mentioned you made a version of this pattern – I’d love to see a picture!! I was glad to hear you added darts as well, as I wasn’t sure if I did something wrong on the side darts or what – it looked so flat in the front at first! By the way, I love your Kasia skirt. I have just attempted to sew that one and I’m afraid it’s too advanced for me at this point! Those gathers, I just couldn’t get them to look right!
Jan 24, 2010, 03.08 PMby ashchaser
Oh, man that overlocker knife is getting me into trouble too! Over xmas I was making a really nice dress and my lovely machine not only serged the skirt, but cut a HUGE hole in the bodice… which I had to redo completely. I think I’m going to just not use the knife for a while…
Jan 24, 2010, 03.25 PMby wzrdreams
Ahhh! This hasn’t happened to me yet but it’s my constant fear!
Jan 25, 2010, 12.50 AMby kaitui-kiwi
Ohh that sounds so demoralising ashchaser, your lesson sounds harder learnt than mine, I was lucky and just got the sleeve band and had enough fabric for make another, but I grumbled the whole way while unpicking the damaged one :( I had had a few close calls but this is the first time it caught it, it’s so easy to get carried away with the speed of that machine! I hope it doesn’t happen to you either wzrdreams, I just stop every now and again and make sure everything is smoothed out but it’s so hard with little fiddly sleeves :)
Jan 25, 2010, 11.54 PMby ashchaser
Yeah I have 2 steps left to finish that dress and I just don’t care anymore! I decided to hide it in my closet for a while so eventually when it is finished, I won’t hate it.

Is there anything in particular that you seriously MUST have out of the 2010 vogue collection??? My in-laws live in the USA and any pattern that I would cut off a limb for I order online and ship to their house and they forward to me. Have you tried to order online – I think simplicity have now started to ship to Aust, vogue may do to. Hoping to get to the Feb BSC event in Malaga – can talk more then.

Hi Braden, Just thought I’d give you an update, the BMV website had a huge sale so I ended up buying the patterns I wanted direct from them, with the club bmv discount it ended up really cheap (about $4 each!) even with postage, can’t wait until they arrive :)

I am sooo jealous… I’m on a pattern buying ban from my husband :O( apparently I have too many (is that possible????) But I was lucky enough to purchase a number of patterns whilst I was in the states last year – mostly costumes for the kids and some cute little girl essentials, but also one or two for me. That said… I still got the inlaws to send a post xmas package of patterns too!
