Hi Jue! I didn’t know you only started sewing in 2007. That’s not so long ago and I thought you had been sewing for like many years. Keep up the good work :D

Your projects look awesome! Do you use serger for all these?
Dec 1, 2010, 08.23 AMby juebejue
i use serger for most of them! though, recently i began to realise that some fabric dont need sergering, and there are other ways to finish the seam that looks neater! sergering the edge also cause more bulk! :)

Hello Juebejue! Thanks for your sweet comments on both of my recent posts!
I hope you are well! X

Hey, I am thinking about making eyelet dresses for my bridesmaids in my upcoming wedding. I am a beginner sewer, and was going to pick an easy pattern. Can you tell me if its possible to just use an eyelet material for the sewing pattern pieces or did you sew the eyelet on top of another material or lining?
Oct 11, 2010, 09.48 PMby juebejue
hi Amy! my eyelet fabric was a pretty sturdy linen, so I didnt have to set it on top of another material at all. though! you should make them wear a slip underneath so that people cant see their panties :)

hello! thank you sooo much for your reply and the measurements. it helps enormously – it doesn’t matter if i measure myself for the pattern size charts, the amount of ease they put into it always throws things out of whack. btw it sounds like we are very similar indeed (except that you’re bigger up top and i’m bigger down below :P) thanks again!! x

Congratulations, your projects and your blog are amazing!!!!

Hi Juebejue, I wondered if I could pick your brains? I am making a cord trench coat using mcalls M5525, going to make a few alterations, I want to add in an inverted kick pleat into the back and I noticed you did something similar with one of your projects (jacket with red buttons)… can you give me a quick run down how you did this? Thanks :-)
Mar 21, 2010, 05.23 AMby juebejue
my brain is for yours to pick ;) i hope i can explain it clearly. but basically, i added 2 inches to the center back seam, but still sew the top and botton of the back seam at the original seam site. iron. then apply a >4inch wide fabric in the back of the pleat, sew it to the fabric on both of the sides.
let me know if its not clear.
Mar 21, 2010, 07.33 PMby msgems
Hey, thanks for this. I didnt see this until after I had a major brain storm, chopped up patterns and basically came to the same conclusion… phew! I have cut out all the pieces and now ready to go!! Fingers crossed and I have done exactly as you said. :-)

I love the Selfish Seamstress’ blog. Every nemesis she lists is a new sewer to admire. So glad she steered me to your wall. Amazing work!

:D:D i love her too! (but shhh, she cant know that!)
Mar 5, 2010, 05.20 PMby threadsquare
That’s pretty hilarious! I mean, you do find it funny, right? And I am totally assuming that ya’ll are BFF in real life, and you’re in on the joke.
Mar 5, 2010, 07.52 PMby juebejue
hahahah! yes, i was sternly warned beforehand and her blog post amused me greatly. though i have never met her in person, i did exchange messages with her quite a few times and i stalk her from time to time :P
Mar 5, 2010, 04.50 PMby carottesauvage
Ergh…. Not to sure about this stuff on Selfishseamstress. She certainly demonstrates a great sense of wit and it is all tongue in cheek of course but too aggressive to my taste. So as Zozo wondered how are you going to retaliate? Adopt the cuteness of the rabbit, I hope ;)
Mar 5, 2010, 07.53 PMby juebejue
hahaha, i had an idea of retaliation — since she’s very hot on jeans right now, i am going into competition with her, stealing her ideas left and right, muahahaha!
Mar 5, 2010, 03.46 PMby msgems
Hey, I just checked out http://selfishseamstress.wordpress.com/…. is this person for real?? Do you know them?
Mar 5, 2010, 07.54 PMby juebejue
hmmm! for all i know, she could be a cylon with an eye for fashion and a great sense of humor! her blog is awesome though — she post free patterns too!
Mar 5, 2010, 08.38 AMby zozowahine
That blog post was so funny, and obviously frightening and filled with such naked aggression! How are you going to retaliate?!
Mar 5, 2010, 07.54 PMby juebejue
hehehe, I am going to make a pair of jeans and steal her ideas for my jeans :D

Wow, I just saw your creations on selfish Seamstress’. Love love your sewed garment and the styling and the photography. My husband loves photography too but he does not have the patience for taking pictures of my creation, too bad. thanks for sharing
Mar 5, 2010, 07.56 PMby juebejue
hehe thanks! if you promise your husband that for one of the set you will wear something sexy and let him take photos of you in that, u might find him much amenable to taking photos for you! teehee!

Hi juebejue! I’ve been so lazy lately! I have a winter coat cut out, but just not the motivation to get started! It’s all the TV shows coming back that keep getting to me… :) Hopefully I’ll get some time to work on it and then post a little more!

Your adorable Pea Style Coat caught my eye & I am so happy to discover all your creations. They are delightful! Being 4’11’ also, I find your tips on adjustments most helpful. Since I am a vintage version of a 4’11’ person (my children all older than you) I sometimes lose my “I’ll make it work anyway” attitude. So, now you are a motivational inspirator! Thanks-what a natural talent you have!

Hi,
I really really love the double breasted coat you made from the talea variation pattern.
Could you tell me how you did the buttons as it looks great- are there any buttons on the inside to secure the left hand side of the coat?
Look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks!! x x
Feb 5, 2010, 02.38 AMby juebejue
hi lele!
I am glad that you liked my “awesome coat”! it is my favorite coat ever :) I will have to get back to you on the length i shortened, but! the best thing to do is to wear an existing coat, put a pin at where you want the length to be (center back is a pretty ideal place). measure from the back collar-to-body seam to the pin, and add 5-10 inches to give yourself seam allowance and room for regrets. when you are working on the coat, make sure to work on sealing off the bottom of the coat after you have tried the coat-to-be on and liked the length, cut if its too long.
as for the buttons, you just have to make sure that the button hole and buttons are at a symmetrical place! (you probably have too anyway if you want ti to look nice); also, do button holes and buttons on both side of the front pieces, they should look symmetrical to eachother. I didnt put anything in side, just flip your front flaps open and button up! (try it on your existing peacoats, though the collar might look weird!)
