Hoi Joost,

Thanks for the message about my first jeans. I just looked back at your pair and see that i favorited one photo 10 months ago on Flikr, so I am sure that seeing your first pair was inspiration.

Oh wow that’s cool :)
Mar 12, 2012, 07.43 PMby asperge11
Hey so I looked at the website, pretty cool eh! I like purple best too. Maybe I’ll make a Tshirt for my brother sometime… but I’m seriously lacking spare time at the moment. I’m also into web design, and as a project I have to make my own website. I know exactly what colours and layout I’m gonna do but I have no idea what to put on it… Good luck with the makemypattern scheme :)
Mar 12, 2012, 08.11 PMby joost52
Thanks sweetie. I hope it would become a useful tool for many sewing enthousiasts, but I need to work on it a lot more :)
Also, in Brussels, most people speak French. I speak French too, but not super good as it’s my third language, and I’m not exactly a linguist ;)
My first language is Dutch, second English et finallement le francais comme troisieme :)
Good luck with your website :)

Hey Nicolai,
I need a hand from my make Burdastyle friends, so here I am asking a favor :) I figured since you posted on my wall that you like my stuff, you might want to help me out a bit ;)
I recently started working on a project that sits somewhere on the crossroads between sewing and IT, two things I happen to like. I wanted to draft my own pattern, but I didn’t like all that measuring and mucking about with paper and pens. So I sat down with the guidelines for a Tshirt pattern and programmed them into a website.
It’s still rough around the edges, but in principle the pattern it generates should be just as good as what you would create by hand. To check that it actually works, I am looking for people who want to generate the pattern for their own measurements, and then make the Tshirt (it’s a pattern of a Tshirt). You can make it in a muslin, there’s not need to do the finish, I am just looking for feedback on how the fit is.
I know it’s a lot to ask for some of your precious sewing time, but I hope that with more work and some valuable feedback, this will become a useful tool for us all :)
Thanks in advance, you can try it here: http://makemypattern.com/

But you should know that the over all fit is amazing! I think I have a new favourite pattern :-)

Hello Joost, I have a suggestion for you in order not to hurt your fingertips anymore by sewing such thick lether. I am sure there will be a saddler in the area of Brussels. They have special tool/ nedels for sewing leather by hand. And they use a special stitch. Maybe there is a friendly guy who will show you. I often saw that when I was actief in horseriding. An other suggestion, the textiel museum in Tilburg offers several sorts of services like lacerprints on leather and other materials,….. Greatings from Rotterdam Martin

My best friend is giving birth in a couple of months and I will be the godfather :) so I would like to make some of this stuff myself.
So yeah, I want in on the baby sewing action ;)

Thank you. My website needs some serious updating, it has been standing still since june. Congratualtions on becoming a godfather, I love sewing babyclothes. Its a nice way to practice different techniques, while making something useful and not having to spendt a furtune on fabrics. Hello, I read in the discussions that you use Inkscape for patterning… I also use Inkscape and have been learning, through trial and error, to draft my patterns with it. The straight lines are easy enough, but the curves can be tricky (armscye, necklines!). Do you know of any websites or books, etc.., that you can recommend for drafting patterns using vector graphic software? I want to draft my patterns in Inkscape so I can upload them as pdf’s here on Burdastyle and on my website so others can download them. If you have any experience with this and can offer advice, I’d appreciate your comments. And sorry for the long post on your wall!
Jan 13, 2012, 03.46 PMby joost52
Hi there, sorry to take some time to get back to you.
There’s a lot of links on the inkscape homepage that’ll help you. Here’s a few:
http://inkscape.org/doc/index.php?lang=en
http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/index.php
http://en.flossmanuals.net/inkscape/
I am a little surprised that you find curved lines to be difficult, because they really shouldn’t be.
You aren’t drawing them by hand are you?
For a curved line, you have a few options. One is to turn a straight line into a curved one.
First draw the line. Then select the node tool and just ‘grab’ the line somewhere (by clicking on it and keeping your mouse button pressed) and drag it to where you want. The line’s start and end point will remain, but the line will follow the mouse in a nice curve.
You can tweak the line by selecting one of the nodes by clicking on it with the node tool. That will show the handles. Make them longer or shorter and change the angle to change the curve of the line.
Alse learn about the different node types. They can make sharp, smooth or symmetrical corners.
When you are happy about a part of a curve, add some nodes (by doubleclicking your line with the node tool) to isolate that part from the rest of the line.
The other way is to start with a circle or ellips and than convert that to a path and use all the stuff I outlined above.
I hope you’ll figure it out, if not, I’m sure there’s a bunch of stuff on YouTube too.
Love,
Joost

I like your website! I never noticed it before haha but I think you only recently started it correct? I was curious as to how you got the custom labels for your clothes! :P Very nice hehe How did you come up with the design?

Yes, I started it very recently, 2 weeks ago to be precise :)
Did you find the post about the custom labels? It’s here
The website and the labels are all my own design. I’m also still changing it around a bit, I’m not fully happy with it at the moment, but I’m glad you like it :)
Nice new pic by the way :)
