I’m sorry this is sooooo late, but I haven’t been on Burdastyle in a while. The ruffle shapes are circles. The inside of the ruffle is the length you want it to be. Draw a bigger circle around the little one, the distance between them is how wide you want your ruffles. Cut a slit to the center and cut out the inner circle. I drew on top of the fabric so that I sewed it on straight. Sew it down, then flip the fabric over to cover the stitching and fabric edge and topstitch. I hop you understood that, if not let me know.

Sorry for the late reply school and work has kept me busy and I haven’t been on burdastyle for months!Thank you so much for your kind words! Actually I still feel very much like a novice and like I have much to learn, I’ve only been doing it for a few months, but I’m so flattered that you think so. Especially comming from someone who has created such beautiful things. I especially love your Exaggerated Shawl Collar Jacket. It’s so sweet looking =)

I just saw your cascade vest and really love it. How did you create the large ruffles for it?

I’m sorry this is sooooo late, but I haven’t been on Burdastyle in a while. Anyway, I basically drew a triangle next to the opening of the vest. The top of the triangle is the same length as the extended collar. The rectangular strip at the top of the ruffle is an extended mandarin collar. The part the extends away from the neck line is the top of the ruffle.
I slashed and spread that piece spreading the bottom portion (the part not touching the neckline). From that I blended the spread piece into a curve and checked to make sure it matched. I would suggest making the ruffle and the extended collar portion one piece so you don’t have that ugly seam. I hope you understood that, if not let me know.
