Hi Jenny, your Alberta Ferretti dress is gorgeous. I have just downloaded the pattern but the instructions are so confusing! Can you help? I think I can work out the ‘binding strip’ down the side opening but what is the ‘backing strip’ (is it just to add support to the shoulder and waist seams?) Doesn’t it make the inside messy? Very grateful for any help you can provide! Gemma

Sorry I just found this message. So you are right – the backing strips are just for support. It is a little messy on the inside after. I tried to catch it as well as I could into the overlocking of the waist and shoulder seams but it’s certainly not pretty all the way around.
The binding strip is for the side opening. That was tricky to do nicely too.
I don’t know if you found that I have also reviewed this on pattern review. Maybe there will be something here that is useful.

Feel free to contact me again. I sewed from the magazine, not the downloadable one, and I don’t know if the instructions on both are exactly the same.
Cheers, and good luck!
