harrietbazley commented on the forum topic Sewing Machine Recommendations for beginner?

If you want a cheap sewing machine “that will last a good while and can handle thick fabric” you might look into getting a vintage ‘black’ Singer or similar rather than an electronic machine. The…

harrietbazley commented on the forum topic Taking in shoulders with facing

NB: as a general point, it usually is possible to unpick a commercial garment selectively and then sew up a seam invisibly by hand (it’s part of the normal mending process, after all – or at least …

harrietbazley commented on the forum topic Trouble Adjusting and fitting sewn garments on my own

harrietbazley commented on the forum topic Edges of pleats pointing outwards

Thank you for the tailoring hints – even though the edges of the pleats were not exactly even, it really worked!

I tacked the pleats shut again using silk thread from my grandmother’s workbox, ste…

harrietbazley commented on the forum topic Edges of pleats pointing outwards

Oh dear – the grain line goes straight down the centre of the triangular pleat insert and down the centres of the front and back skirt pieces, so these topstitched side pleats are never, ever going…
