Hi Gertie I just wanted to say Hi in a non-stalkerish way. I’ve been debating the Collette patterns for a while and noticed that you have been a pattern tester for lots of them. By the way, all your creations are gorgeous and I am pretty darn jealous. I have my eye on the Rooibos. As you’ve made this already, would you say that it would suit someone of a more curvy nature?? I dont know my measurements off the top of my head but if you look at My Studio you will get an idea of what I look like. I love this dress and really want to make it but I get a bit paranoid about my giant hips! I dont want to look out of proportion. I also live in UK so getting the pattern for me would require a bit of effort, and I obviously only want to do this if its going to turn out well. Anyway, sorry for rambling at you. Hope you can help :-)

Hi Gertie,
I just took a tour in your profile and I must say Wow. I really like all the dresses you’ve made. I like vintage fashion and bright colors and all these features I see in your creations. Beautifull! Keep up the good work and I am looking forward to see more of your creations! JS

Hi Gertie – congrats on the blogging role for BurdaStyle – very much looking forward to your posts!!
Just has a look at your blog – on McCalls 5936 – I have the same peplum probs!!! I redrafted the back peplum without the ruffles, as I’m not really a ruffle kinda gal, but the front ones do not sit nicely – like you I feel it kinda ruins a great jacket pattern. In hindsight I think they needed to be cut on the bias as I notice that they are drafted to take on some of a ruffle of their own, sort of pushues them to the front under the front princess seam. Was thinking of posting mine and seeing what the experienced sewer here at BurdStyle think.

Hi Gertie, Was hoping to join your sewing group, if you all meet. I take fashion design classes at F.I.T. It would be nice to get together with other people who enjoy sewing :)

Hi Gertie! I live in Astoria, too, and do some design work for theatre costumes, both shopping and construction. I’d love to be a part of your group. Anyone else out there who does costumes? My specialty, I guess, is copying vintage designs for shows and repairing vintage clothing. I never went to design school, I’ve just been at it for a long, long time, learning from my aunt and grandmother.
I really like your designs shown above. Do you think the group will have a meeting at all? That would be terrific!

Hello! Just wanted to say thanks for your very looovely Malissa variation. Funny you should call it your holiday present dress, as I just made one for a friend who recently moved away this Christmas. All the best this new year, take care!

Hi Gertie— Thank you for the kind words! I actually didn’t go to design school, so that’s quite a compliment! I was just a bored kid in a small town who needed a hobby, I guess, and sewing was it! Now I teach at a design school, where I hope I’m able to share some wisdom with my students! P.S.—I secretly love your Malissa variation the best, even though mine is also in the running. ;) Good luck!
