But in short, draping or moulage (french) is a technique that can be used instead or in complement to pattern making to create garments, by manipulating the fabric directly on the fitting dummy or person. If you think about it, it’s been around forever… Think ancient greeks, sari’s from india, ancient rome…
Personally I find it particularly helpful when trying to create diferent shapes and unconvencional volumes. after you got it as you like on the dummy you mark everything with a pencil and pins and then you can take it apart and trace the pattern!!
