Oh yeah that’s great thanks. I think i’ll go for the sewing channels on the waistband that i’m fitting, and then pushing the elastic through the channels.bx

Ooh that’s smart! I didn’t even think about that! I think I’ll definitely do it that way the next time I make something similar. That way I don’t have to deal with stretching or figuring out how to finish the inside.

Hey Erin, I want to pick your brain about something! I want to fit an elastic on a skirt i’m making but I only want it at the back, similar to how you’ve done yours on your Mojitos on Monday Dress (which is lovely!). Did you use a shirring technique? Thanks bx

I tried to shirr using elastic thread in the bobbin, but for some reason it just would not work on my machine. I ended up using 1/4" elastic and sewed it on with a zigzag stitch. It’s not especially pretty, but it got the job done.
If your design permits, I’d suggest adding the elastic after you’ve sewn the skirt to the waistband (or whatever pieces you’re attaching to the elasticized part), so you don’t have to deal with stretching it out as you sew those pieces together.
I hope that’s helpful!

Hi Erin, thanks so much for putting my dress on your blog :-) Made my day! It was lovely to read through and I’m so impressed with your quilts – especially the baby one, the wedding one and the one for your grandma – fantastic colours and textures!

Thanks for your lovely comments! I love what you’ve sewn. There are some great books on t-shirt manipulation if you ever need to get desperate for material. One’s called Generation T, a funny name, but inspiring with all the ideas for remaking old t-shirts. They’re how I got back into sewing after years away.
