I purchased the Pleated Blouse 06/2014 and the test square doesn’t match. I have set the printer to A4 and I have printed out several PDF patterns with no problem. Can you tell me if there is a mistake in the 4" test sq? According to my measurement is is 4 5/8" square not 4". Thank you!! Susan

      Hi Susan,
I’m not sure if I can help, but the only thing I can think about is that it’s very important to print actual size, and not “fit to page”. You can check this out under printer properties. Wishing you good luck!

Hello Ellen It is so great to hear from you. True, I haven’t spent much time sewing and looking into projects of others lately. You know, I just moved from Hungary to the States… and therefore have many things to do to get organised. However, after so many weeks without sewing, I have to admit, I start to miss it. The only problem still is, that now that I DO have a sewing room in our new house… there is still the table missing! What a huge problem. So therefore, I’m desperately trying to find a table that fits the room and my needs ;O> ! I have to spend more time here again…. Have a great week! Brigitte

I’m glad to hear that you soon will be able to enjoy your hobby again :-) I couldn’t live without my sewing machine…! Have a fabulous week and looking forward to see one of your new project made in US ;-))

Hi Ellen I was wondering if you can help me.I would like to make this dress…http://www.burdastyle.com/pattern_store/patterns/jersey-dress-022013 I know you have made it. Does it pull down at the neckline?

Hi Sarahsdaughter, I remember this was a little tricky, but I think I hand-stitches the the knot over the neckline. You can try with needles first and then you will see if it feels right. I hope this will be a little helpful for you. I have just finished another dress with a similar knot – and for this dress I have done like I explain.. Wish you good luck! :)

Oh nice! I hope to travel to Spain one day. For now, we are going to try me on a short flight, and if I am feeling okay, we will fly to Vegas in March! :-) Now to loose those Christmas pounds so my clothes fit!!!

I have to share, I was so excited today, I found heel bar buckles at a great price that I’ve been trying to find at a reasonable price. Someone told me to try a western place, and there is an Equine Emporium 30 minutes away!! So happy!!!

Spain is nice, but it’s too cold there now so the Canary Island like Tenerife is wonderful in wintertime.
I hope you will feel okay flying to Vegas – what a dream!! Cheers my friend – you will manage!! ♥

Hi Ellen, I have been really busy with visitors lately and haven’t had time to comment on all of your lovely projects. I love the pale blue cardigan in particular and the colour of the knit really does look great on you. That is such a nice cardigan pattern. I see that you are sewing for a sunny holiday. Have fun and I look forward to seeing what you have made. I am about to start sewing for a cold holiday which is fun too. I am going to be going on a cruise around Great Britain and Northern France in May and then I am going to Stockholm for 5 days. I know the weather will be warm for everyone over there but for me, it will be cold.

Hi schnui, nice to hear from you :) You are so kind thinking about me – and I really appreciate your sewing friendship :) May can be a very nice month cruising around because the blooming is starting and it can be very lovely. I think you will have a wonderful journey – just enjoy! Sewing is nice no matter if it’s winter or summer and I enjoy every moment I have for sewing :-) I like Stockholm very much and we have friends living there. By the way – did your son enjoy his trip to Bergen at Christmas?
Have a wonderful weekend with lot of Happiness!

My son Matt didn’t end up going to Bergen because his friend and his family decided to go to Reykjavik for a week over the New Year holiday season and they asked him to join them. Matt absolutely loved Reykjavik and had an amazing time there. He bought me back a lovely scarf that can become a hat. He said the art and craft industry in Iceland was so innovative. I have bought up my 2 children to appreciate art and craft and they really love it as adults too. The reason I want to go to Stockholm is to find some information about my Grandmothers family who immigrated to New Zealand in the late 1880’s. My great grandmother came from a lace making family, so the fine arts are in our blood and I want to see where they lived as I have an address in the old town. It will be lovely to see where all this happened. My daughter is very artistic as is my son but they both have jobs which mean that art and craft is purely a hobby and pleasure. Do your children like art too??

    • Image7_large

      Feb 8, 2014, 07.50 AMby Ellen Hatteland

What an interesting choice! Reykjavik is fantastic – and for sure a lot of the modern art and fashion are invented there. The scarf you got seems very modern :)
That’s wonderful schnui – to have genes from Stockholm! I hope you will be lucky and find more interesting history from you grandmothers family.
I haven’t spend that much time studying art and craft, so my sons are not that interested, but for sure they like history and like visiting new places and historical places when travelling :)

Hi Ellen, I hope you had a wonderful holiday and enjoyed the warm weather before you head into winter in Norway. I love all your clothes that you have sewn and posted lately and you must have felt very proud looking so lovely each day on your holiday. Does your husband like what you make or is he just use to you always looking great in your beautifully made clothes? He must be very proud of you too but if he is like an Australian man, who mostly likely won’t say anything. Today I am sewing the top the same as your orange top in my Dehli Store fabric. I think I wrote to you that I was going to make the dress version and I don’t know where I got that idea as there isn’t one. But once I am finished this top, I am sure I can convert the pattern to a dress and it would be very cool to wear. It is getting very hot now in Brisbane and I just want to wear cool cotton dresses. My son is travelling to Norway at Christmas time to visit 2 school friends working in Bergen and I am trying to tell him it will be very cold. As a family we have traveled to Canada in the winter and I am assuming it will be a similar cold!! I have only been to Norway in the summer and it was a perfect climate for traveling in. I back packed all over for a month in 1978 and absolutely loved Norway. I will always hold Norway close to my heart. In 2007 my late husband and I had booked a Hurtigen cruise from Bergen to the very top of Norway which we had dreamed of doing but sadly my husband was too ill to travel. So I do hope that one day soon I can make that journey as I would love to see Norway from the coast. I wish my son was coming in summer but he cannot get the time off work then. I know he will love Bergen and I hope he can travel by train through to Oslo as it is such a beautiful train journey. What are you sewing now? Clothes for winter? I will look forward to seeing your next projects.

Hi Schnui, we had a wonderful holiday in Tenerife and we really enjoyed the nice and warm weather:) I’s so wonderful to “stretch” the summer a bit and since you have been to Norway you know that summer don’t last so long here.. I’m really surpriced that you son is travelling to Bergen for Christmas! Our 3rd son is living in Bergen, but unfortunately he will come home the 12th of Dec. We are living close to Bergen, just 3 hours by car and ferry :) Maybe he wanna have a trip to Nedre Vats? If you like you can send me an email; ellen@hatteland.com
I would love to welcome you and your husband to Norway too, and I do hope that your husband is well now.
Thank you, your so sweet to say that you love my sewing – I’m really impressed with all the fabulous projects you have made too :) My husband loves everything (mostly..) of what I’m sewing, and he’s a bit proud.., and that’s nice. It makes me so happy to spend time with the sewing machine – and that makes him happy too :-)
I’m looking forward to see your new dress – I’m sure it will be wonderful!!
I have always projects going on, patterns, ideas, looking into magazines and planning or sewing new items.. Lately I have been using my overlock a lot for stretch fabric – I do have a lot on my mind..
Nice to hear from you! Let’s keep in touch! :)
