Hi, I’ve just cut the pattern for your Coffee Date Dress (Christmas gift for my sister, I’m so excited to give it to her!!), and I realized that I can’t find any detailed instructions for how to put it all together. It looks straightforward enough, but I don’t want to just wing it if there are instructions available that I just didn’t see! The page that downloads under “Instructions” just gave me a description, materials, and “Step 1: Please provide real instructions”. Am I missing something??
Thanks so much for this pattern, it’s lovely!

Hi, I have loved your coffee date dress forever…. and for some reason I am obsessed with have a dress with ruffles for Summer (December here in Australia). So being my first project from Burdastyle I picked your dress (did i mention that i love it), but I can’t seem to get the instuctions (I am making the multi-size). Can you help me here – perhaps email me ac_braden@yahoo.com.au. Also, how much fabric will I need – for size 38?
PS – Just checked out your blog, you make me jealous with your abilities…. and simply because you have time to sew!!!

Hello Elaine,
i too am having problems with the coffee date dress instructions. I tried going to the link you provided for your website, but it says it doesn’t exist? Is it still posted there? If you could email it to me directly I’d much appreciate it. abigayletett@gmail.com

Hi Elaine May,
I am trying to download information for your Coffee Date Dress and I was able to get the pattern pieces, however, the file for the instructions on how to put the dress together has an error. The instructions file is in .PDF but there’s only the first page and the rest of the instructions is cut off or missing. I don’t know if it’s the web-site’s fault or if you could send me the full instruction file, i would love to get started on making the dress.
Thank you,
Hoai

In the link: http://www.elainehuang.com/patterns/coffee-date-dress-instructions.pdf
…the ruffle requires Ruffle 1 strip of fabric 6” w x 36” l, with fabric grain running lengthwise.
Encase each long raw edge of ruffle [rectangle] with a narrow zigzag stitch. Fold in half
lengthwise with right side on inside [ so that it is 3″ × 36″]. Stitch short edges [sides of the rectangles together to make clean edges for the ruffle]. Trim seam allowances on short
edges.
Turn right side out [with the long edge of the ruffle rectangle unsewn]. Press.
Make a row of long stitches along the zigzagged edge of ruffle through both layers of
fabric, ¼” from [open] edge.
Make a second row to the first, ½” from the edge [basting with large stitches, no dot backstitch as you will later remove these stitches]. Pull threads
to gather until the ruffle measures 21” in length. Tie threads to secure ends. Adjust
gathers evenly.
[note: for the following part, it is easiest to pin and stitch each section of the ruffle to
the bodice one at a time. However, it is a good idea to “test pin” the entire ruffle in
place, mark the ruffle where it meets each of the points, and unpin before doing the
following steps.]
Pin one end of ruffle’s gathered edge to point A on bodice front. Lay ruffle edge
along ruffle line until point B. Pin ruffle at point B. Baste or pin ruffle between points A
and B. Stitch ruffle in place ¼” from ruffle edge. Fold ruffle back at point B and affix
ruffle from point B to C in same fashion. Repeat until point E. [note: be careful not to
pull the bodice too taut when attaching the ruffle, otherwise it will pucker.]
Pin remaining ruffle from point E to point F matching ruffle edge to neck edge. Baste.
Stitch ruffle ½” from neck edge (stitching line lies in the seam allowance.)
Remove gathering threads from ruffle.

I’m so sorry if you’ve already answered this questions 1000 times, but how much fabric do you need for the small size Coffee Date Dress?
It’s beautiful by the way :)

Hi: The instructions disappeared when BurdaStyle relaunched its website and it’s not letting me re-add them. You can download instructions for the size 32 petite here:
http://www.elainehuang.com/patterns/coffee-date-dress-instructions.pdf
or for the sizes 34-42 here:

Hi Elaine, I’m new to this whole print your own pattern thing, but I’m really excited about it!! So, to print the pattern for the coffee date dress, do I need to print the PDF as it comes up (131%) or print it at 100%? I saw somewhere on the web site that the patterns should be printed as is, at 100%, so I’m a little confused! Thanks so much, ~Kat

Hi Elaine, I’m new on here and have just downloaded your pattern for your coffee date dress. I’m going to use an african print cotton fabric for it as I live in Manchester, England and lots of african refugee’s have moved to my city. Lots of african shops have now opened near me and I thought that your dress would look lovely in one of their prints. I’ll upload the finished product for you to see. x
