elainemay added the project Prim & Proper Burda Dress Inspired by Heidi Merrick
A very loose interpretation of the Burda 5-2008-125 sheath dress. I used the lining pattern to make the body of the dress (silk and wool blend flannel suiting in black with white pinstripes) and d…

elainemay commented on the project Plaid Pants Into Plaid Hat
Thanks! Sorry, I did forget to mention that. I didn’t use cardboard- I used a very heavy interfacing called Flexiform. It’s about the thickness of craft felt, but stuff. It’s not ideal; I’ve found…
elainemay added the project Plaid Pants Into Plaid Hat
A cap refashioned from a pair of plaid pants with a rainbow-ish lining inside. The pattern is from a Japanese hat pattern book which unfortunately does not have an English title. For more info abou…

elainemay added the project Key Lime Trench
Yay for new spring jackets! I made this trench using McCall’s 5525, and I can’t wait until it’s warm enough to wear it. The fabric is Amy Butler’s Full Moon Polka Dot in Lime, fully underlined with…

elainemay commented on the article Basic Sloper Patterns: Priceless
Errr… not to be a killjoy, but I believe the pattern for “Basic Long Sleeve Top” (the last one listed) is actually from PatternMaker, which I would assume means it’s copyrighted and shouldn’t be …

elainemay commented on the project Jeans that fit!
Thanks! Hahah, it’s never too cold for an outdoor photo shoot! It was, however, too dark for one :)
elainemay added the project Jeans that fit!
I hate shopping for jeans because I can never find a pair that fits my short, short legs! (Kids jeans don’t work because I am kid-sized but not kid-shaped.) Enter the wonderful and wildly popular…

elainemay added the project Ballet Skirt for Grown-ups
A ballet wrap skirt is super easy to make, but it’s taken me quite a lot of trial and error to find the right flattering shape that looks polished and pretty for class, but not frou-frou and little…

elainemay commented on the project The Dress I've Been Coveting
Thanks! The fabric is from Mood in New York and I believe I paid $18/yard. If you don’t live nearby, you may be able to call them and have them ship it. Denver Fabrics sometimes has wool doublek…

elainemay added the project The Dress I've Been Coveting
I’ve always wanted a sleek, basic, black wrap dress, but ready-to-wear options never work on my figure. I sewed this up in wool doubleknit using a pattern adapted from Vogue 8379, surely one of the…

elainemay commented on the article Holiday Giveaway: Win a Feature in Living Creatively Online Monthly Magazine!
I’ve always been a mender, I save all my scraps for future projects, and I use old sheets for making muslins. Recently it’s been restitching loose buttons and darning my felted slippers. Oh, and …

What a wonderful job you’ve done- and how difficult it must be to have to leave your BurdaStyle family in NY! I wish you much success and happiness in whatever comes next— and viel Glück in Berlin!

elainemay posted a message on barbaraagatha's wall
hi barbara.agatha! i saw your message about the silk top— i would say it probably depends how wide your silk is. often silk is only 35" wide, rather than 45" or 60" like other fabrics. I’d say …

I love any color that is rich and saturated without being bright— teal, deep olive, crimson, plum. I would love to wear bright yellow on occasion, but it’s all wrong with my skin tone.
